Florida Man With Violent History Arrested for Choking a Cop [WATCH]

A Florida man is facing multiple charges, including attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer, after allegedly attacking police following a dispute over an unpaid restaurant bill in Orlando, as reported by The Blaze.

According to Orlando police, officers responded to a disturbance at the Corner Pizza Bar on Magnolia Avenue around 10:45 p.m. Monday.

Restaurant employees told authorities that a customer, later identified as 22-year-old Daniel Robinson, refused to pay a $50.50 tab and became physically aggressive when confronted.

WOFL-TV reported that when Robinson was asked to pay, he shoved the restaurant’s female owner before leaving the premises. Employees then contacted 911, prompting two Orlando police officers to locate Robinson across the street.

Robinson reportedly told officers he intended to pay using his phone, but claimed the device was dead. Investigators, however, stated the phone was visibly active at the time.

While officers attempted to detain Robinson, the situation escalated. One officer shouted, “He’s choking me,” during the arrest. According to WFTV-TV, Robinson is 6’2″ and weighs approximately 280 pounds.

The second officer on scene said in a report, “I was in fear that great bodily injury or death would occur,” prompting him to strike Robinson in the face multiple times until the chokehold was released.

Officers also deployed pepper spray during the incident.

As medical personnel arrived and attempted to restrain Robinson on a stretcher, police say he spat in an officer’s face.

Robinson was booked into the Orange County Jail on Tuesday and is being held on a bond totaling $17,650. His initial court appearance took place on Wednesday.

Court records obtained by WFTV revealed a history of prior arrests involving Robinson. In November of last year, he was accused of stalking a woman after allegedly touching her on a public bus and then following her when she exited.

That case also involved the use of pepper spray during his arrest. The woman, Mariah Gilbert, told WFTV, “I am upset and kind of in shock because that could have been me. Now I have the opportunity to testify against him.”

Robinson was also arrested in a separate case last year involving battery on a different woman and petit theft, according to records reviewed by WFTV.

The Corner Pizza Bar released a statement expressing appreciation for law enforcement’s rapid response. “Fortunately, the Orlando Police Department responded quickly and handled the situation promptly and professionally.

We’re very grateful for their support,” the statement read. The restaurant added that it would not offer further public comment while it continues to process the event.
