New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Monday denounced the violent anti-ICE protests unfolding in Los Angeles and issued a direct warning that similar behavior would not be tolerated in New York.

As The New York Post reported, speaking at a press conference alongside NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, Adams addressed the escalating unrest in California, which has entered its fourth consecutive night.

“The escalation of protests in Los Angeles over the last couple of days is unacceptable and would not be tolerated if attempted in our city.”

The remarks came as demonstrations in Los Angeles grew increasingly violent following ICE raids in the city. Protesters have set vehicles on fire and launched fireworks and rocks at law enforcement officers.

In response, President Donald Trump ordered 2,000 National Guard troops into the city. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth also dispatched 700 active-duty Marines to assist, with their arrival expected on Tuesday.

Mayor Adams emphasized New York’s preparedness and called on residents to act with restraint.

“I want to assure all New Yorkers that we have the best police department in the world. Men and women who are prepared to handle any issues that may arise, especially when we are faced with deep division in our society,” he said.

Adams urged potential demonstrators to “choose peace and compassion over anger and retaliation.”

Commissioner Tisch echoed the mayor’s stance and affirmed the NYPD’s ability to maintain order without the need for federal assistance.

“Let me be crystal clear: We have no tolerance for violence, none. We have no tolerance for property damage. We have no tolerance for people blocking entrances to buildings or blocking driveways or blocking cars from moving. Any attacks against law enforcement will be met with a swift and decisive response from the NYPD. We are responsible for public safety and maintaining order in this city. And we will never abdicate that responsibility.”

The press conference followed recent demonstrations in New York, including an anti-ICE protest in the lobby of Trump Tower on Monday. Protesters demanded the release of migrants detained and transferred to a megaprison in El Salvador.

In another incident in late May, nearly two dozen demonstrators were arrested outside an ICE facility in Manhattan after federal agents apprehended migrants at the Lower Manhattan courthouse.

Officials in New York continue to monitor developments in Los Angeles closely as federal forces are deployed in response to the unrest.
