Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California is in hot water. Like always, he’s the one who’s turned up the heat. Amid the escalating standoff between rioters and federal troops in Los Angeles, Newsom has settled squarely on the side of lawlessness.
He’s called the deployment of the National Guard “illegal,”“dangerous,” and a “brazen abuse of power.” He’s up to his usual fear-mongering, warning: “If some of us can be snatched off the street without a warrant, based only on suspicion or skin color, then none of us are safe.” As Newsom’s term as governor expires, speculation swirls that he’ll attempt a presidential run in 2028. Newsom himself walked back previous claims that he has a “sub-zero interest” in the office, telling the Wall Street Journal, “I’m not thinking about running, but it’s a path that I could see unfold.” Voters may prevent that path from unfolding.
