Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA) criticized President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement strategy during a recent appearance on CNN, calling it “domestic terrorism” and accusing federal agents of targeting minority communities.

Kamlager-Dove made the comments on CNN’s “The Arena” while discussing the Trump administration’s renewed push to deport individuals in the country illegally.

“I would argue that this is not immigration policy that we’re seeing unfold. This is domestic terrorism,” she said during her interview with host Kasie Hunt.

When asked to elaborate, the California Democrat pointed to examples she claimed were reflective of current immigration enforcement activity.

She described situations involving “grandmothers taking young children to church or to the grocery store or to a little Korean market” who were allegedly detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“They are snatching people, putting them in a van, carting them off, detaining them, not informing their parents or family members,” Kamlager-Dove said.

“Yes, I would argue that you are terrorizing communities.”

Kamlager-Dove’s remarks came just days after a surge in public support for Trump’s immigration crackdown, as reflected in recent polling.

A CBS News survey conducted among 2,428 adults prior to the weekend’s anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles showed that 54 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s policies to remove individuals residing in the U.S. illegally.

Reminder for anyone who forgot: The country voted for mass deportations and despite all the psyops, we haven’t changed our mind about it.

The same CBS poll found that 42 percent of respondents believe Trump’s deportation policies have made the country safer, while 30 percent said the policies made the country less safe.

Another 27 percent said there has been no noticeable change in safety levels.

Following the escalation of riots in Los Angeles over the weekend, which included direct clashes with law enforcement and damage to public property, President Trump activated the California National Guard to assist with restoring order.

A separate poll conducted by RGM Research after the National Guard was deployed found continued support for the administration’s actions.

According to the poll of 1,000 registered voters, 58 percent said they approve of Trump’s ongoing efforts to deport illegal immigrants, while 34 percent said they disapprove.

The RGM poll also found that 52 percent of respondents supported the decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles. Of those, 30 percent said they “strongly” approved of the move.

Kamlager-Dove’s statements follow a growing trend among progressive lawmakers who have intensified criticism of immigration enforcement under the Trump administration.

Her comparison of ICE’s operations to terrorism is one of the most direct accusations made by a sitting member of Congress in recent weeks, as the administration has stepped up its enforcement measures amid rising unrest.

ICE has not commented on Kamlager-Dove’s statements.

President Trump has previously defended the agency’s actions, stating that they are upholding the rule of law and protecting public safety by removing individuals who are in the U.S. unlawfully.

The debate over federal immigration enforcement continues as cities across the country respond to the administration’s actions with either local cooperation or public resistance.

Despite political division, polling data suggests that a majority of Americans continue to support strict immigration enforcement, including deportations and the use of the National Guard when necessary to restore order.
