Israel has formally requested the assistance of the Trump Administration in its ongoing conflict with Iran, according to a report from Axios that cites two unnamed Israeli officials.

The request follows a series of targeted Israeli military operations against Iranian nuclear and military infrastructure, as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate.

In the past 48 hours, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have launched multiple precision strikes on Iranian sites, resulting in the deaths of several senior Iranian Army and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders.

Additionally, Israeli forces have targeted nuclear scientists and are now reportedly expanding operations to include oil refineries and energy infrastructure inside Iran.

Iran has responded with multiple ballistic missile attacks aimed at Israeli cities and military installations.

The latest barrage occurred Saturday night.

While Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system has intercepted the majority of these projectiles, some have reached their targets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage.

One major obstacle facing the Israeli military is the Fordow uranium enrichment site, which is built deep into a mountain. Israeli officials reportedly told U.S. counterparts that they lack the munitions and aircraft required to strike such a heavily fortified facility.

Specifically, Israel does not possess bunker-buster bombs or the long-range bombers necessary for an effective attack on Fordow.

As a result, Israel has asked the United States to join the operation and provide the military capabilities needed to complete the mission.

These requests have been communicated through official channels, though the U.S. has not confirmed plans to take direct action.

The Trump Administration has so far limited its involvement to defensive measures, particularly in intercepting Iranian missile and drone attacks directed at Israel.

American military assets in the region have participated in air defense efforts but have not launched offensive operations.

“Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Thursday.

“Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for its self-defense. President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners. Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel.”

An Israeli official, speaking anonymously, claimed that President Trump assured Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. would strike Iran if necessary.

However, a White House official denied that such a commitment had been made.

Another source confirmed Israel’s request for assistance but emphasized that the U.S. is not currently considering offensive operations against Iran.

A senior White House official told Axios on Saturday, “Whatever happens today cannot be prevented,” referring to ongoing Israeli strikes.

The official added, “But we have the ability to negotiate a successful peaceful resolution to this conflict if Iran is willing. The fastest way for Iran to accomplish peace is to give up its nuclear weapons program.”

Despite the cautious U.S. stance, Israel is expected to continue pressing for American military involvement.

Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter told Fox News on Friday that completing the mission would require neutralizing Fordow.

“The entire operation… really has to be completed with the elimination of Fordow,” Leiter said.

According to Axios, “An Israeli source said the U.S. is considering the request and stressed Israel hopes Trump agrees.”

As the situation develops, regional security analysts are monitoring whether the United States will shift from a defensive posture to a more active role in the conflict, which could have significant implications for U.S. personnel and interests across the Middle East.
