A violent attack unfolded inside Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday morning when a man with a long criminal record slashed two court officers in the neck and face, according to law enforcement sources, as reported by The New York Post.

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jonathan Wohl of Queens, reportedly entered the courthouse at 100 Centre Street at approximately 9:30 a.m. and launched an unprovoked assault on uniformed officers in the lobby.

According to officials, Wohl slashed one officer twice in the face and another in the neck before shoving a third officer into a barrier. He was eventually taken into custody on the fourth floor of the building.

A maniac barged into a Lower Manhattan courthouse and slashed two officers in the neck and face in a shocking attack Monday morning, law enforcement sources said.

Authorities stated that Wohl did not have a scheduled court appearance on Monday and have not yet determined a motive for the attack.

Wohl has a documented history with law enforcement, having been arrested 18 times, primarily on drug-related charges. Three of those cases remain open. Law enforcement sources noted that Wohl has had repeated encounters at the courthouse and was known to court personnel.

“He’s always harassing the court officers,” a police source told The New York Post.

“He said he wanted to kill them.”

The incident has raised renewed concerns about security and staffing inside New York City courthouses.

The New York State Supreme Court Officers Association recently warned that staffing levels at city courthouses have dropped to what they described as “bleak,” potentially jeopardizing the safety of judges, jurors, and the general public.

Officials have not released the current condition of the injured officers, but emergency services responded quickly to the scene following the attack. The courthouse was placed on temporary lockdown while officers secured the area and conducted an internal sweep.

The NYPD is investigating the incident, including how Wohl was able to access the building without an appearance scheduled and whether any additional threats exist. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has not yet announced formal charges.

The incident adds to mounting concerns over repeat offenders and courthouse safety in the city, particularly amid growing frustration among law enforcement officials over policies that allow career criminals back into public spaces.

As of Monday evening, Wohl remained in custody. Further details about his arraignment and possible charges are expected in the coming days.
