Major metropolitan areas across the United States are increasing law enforcement presence at key locations in response to rising tensions in the Middle East after the U.S. military conducted airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

Cities including New York, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles announced enhanced security protocols, particularly at religious institutions, cultural centers, and diplomatic locations, following the U.S. air campaign supporting Israel in its escalating conflict with Iran.

The actions come as U.S. involvement marked a significant turn in the more than weeklong hostilities between Israel and Iran.

Though officials from multiple cities emphasized that there are no known credible threats, security efforts are being stepped up in what authorities described as a precautionary approach.

“There are no known credible threats at this time and out of an abundance of caution, LAPD is stepping up patrols near places of worship, community gathering spaces and other sensitive sites,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass stated in a social media post.

The Los Angeles Police Department is working in coordination with local, state, and federal partners to respond quickly to any emerging developments.

Mayor Bass’s statement echoed efforts underway in other major cities, many of which have large, diverse populations and prominent religious and cultural institutions.

In New York City, the New York Police Department said it is closely monitoring the situation in Iran and is already deploying additional officers to critical areas around the city.

“We’re tracking the situation unfolding in Iran,” the NYPD said in a statement posted to X.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we’re deploying additional resources to religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across NYC and coordinating with our federal partners. We’ll continue to monitor for any potential impact to NYC.”

Similar steps are reportedly being taken in other metropolitan areas, including Chicago and Boston, although those cities had not released formal public statements by Sunday evening.

Law enforcement officials nationwide are said to be on alert for any signs of coordinated activity or attempts at retaliatory violence.

The U.S. military strikes, which reportedly targeted Iran’s Fordow nuclear enrichment facility and other critical sites, followed days of Israeli operations in the region.

President Donald Trump authorized the use of force as part of a broader effort to support Israel’s security posture amid growing threats from Tehran.

The Fordow site, built deep into a mountainside near the city of Qom, was one of Iran’s most heavily fortified facilities.

According to U.S. officials, the site was “completely and totally obliterated” using multiple bunker-busting bombs.

In anticipation of possible domestic fallout, federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, have also been in contact with local officials to coordinate information sharing and rapid response capabilities.

As developments continue to unfold overseas, American officials emphasized the importance of vigilance while calling for calm.

Law enforcement agencies reiterated that no actionable intelligence suggesting a specific threat has been received but affirmed that proactive steps are being taken to deter any potential violence.

The U.S. government has not confirmed if additional military actions are planned in the region, but defense officials say they are prepared to respond to any Iranian retaliation.
