A former Clinton administration official is drawing attention for praising President Donald Trump’s recent military action in Iran, calling the operation “bold and courageous” and suggesting that former Vice President Kamala Harris would not have had the resolve to authorize such a strike, as reported by Fox News.

Jamie Metzl, who served on President Bill Clinton’s National Security Council and was also deputy staff director for then-Senator Joe Biden on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, took to X over the weekend with a series of posts applauding Trump’s successful strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities.

Metzl said he was “not a blind tribalist” and credited Trump for making a “bold” decision that he believes protected America’s national security.

“I am not a fan of many of Donald Trump‘s actions, but I will speak openly and honestly when he takes bold steps defending America’s interests, as he did tonight,” Metzl posted Saturday evening.

The comments came just hours after Trump addressed the nation from the White House, announcing the successful execution of “Operation Midnight Hammer.”

The mission targeted Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites with long-range B-2 Spirit bombers in what officials described as the largest B-2 strike in U.S. history.

“Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity, and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s No. 1 state sponsor of terror,” Trump said.

Metzl, despite his prior affiliations with Democrats, did not hesitate to contrast Trump’s action with what he believes would have been inaction under Harris.

“I also believe VP Harris would not have had the courage or fortitude to take such an essential step,” he wrote.

He continued, “Iran has been at war with the United States for 46 years. Its regime has murdered thousands of American citizens. Its slogan ‘death to America’ was not window dressing but core ideology.”

I served on the National Security Council under President Clinton. I was Joe Biden’s Deputy Staff Director of the Senate foreign Relations Committee. I voted for Kamala Harris and have been a vocal critic of many dangerous and undemocratic actions taken by President Trump.

But…

Fox News Digital reached out to Harris’ office for comment but received no response.

Metzl’s remarks align with a growing number of voices, including several Democrats, who expressed support for Trump’s decision. Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) said, “The destruction of Iran’s nuclear program is essential to ultimate peace in the Middle East.”

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) called it “the correct move,” emphasizing Iran’s status as the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.

As I’ve long maintained, this was the correct move by @POTUS.

New York Times columnists Bret Stephens and David French—both frequent Trump critics—also publicly backed the decision, calling it “courageous” and “correct.”

However, not all lawmakers were in agreement. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) criticized the strike for allegedly bypassing Congress.

The operation followed Israel’s preemptive June 12 strike on Iran amid heightened nuclear tensions. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated the action was necessary to “roll back the Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival.”

Trump’s strike was coordinated with the highest level of operational secrecy. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Gen. Dan Caine confirmed that B-2 bombers executed the mission without any leaks, calling it “historic.”
