Former MSNBC host Joy Reid launched into a lengthy, profanity-laced tirade against President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio during an appearance on analyst Malcolm Nance’s YouTube channel Thursday, accusing both men of lacking principles and likening Trump supporters to a “monotheistic cult.”

The comments came during a nearly two-minute monologue where Reid criticized Secretary Rubio’s political and religious history, claimed Trump and his supporters form a religious cult, and attacked Rubio’s motives in serving under the Trump administration.

“Marco Rubio believes in nothing,” Reid said.

“He’s been a Catholic, he’s been a Mormon, he’s been an Evangelical — he’s whatever religion works for him in the moment. And he’s also whatever ideology works for him in the moment.”

She went on to say that Rubio has taken positions both in support of and against Ukraine and Russia, depending on what was politically beneficial at the time.

Reid continued, “He thought Donald Trump was a small-penis weakling, and now he thinks Donald Trump is God. Marco Rubio believes in nothing. But he doesn’t even have the intellectual heft of a [Republican Texas Sen.] Ted Cruz — who’s barely got any. He’s got less.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on January 20 with a vote of 99-0.

He was the first cabinet member confirmed during President Trump’s second term.

Rubio, a former U.S. senator from Florida, had previously clashed with Trump during the 2016 Republican presidential primary but later became a close foreign policy ally, aligning with the administration’s America First agenda.

Reid claimed that Rubio is serving in the Trump administration with hopes of eventually taking over his base of supporters.

“Marco Rubio is doing what he’s doing now because in his mind, he thinks that somehow he can inherit the cult of Donald Trump,” Reid said.

“That when Trump is aged out and when the devil takes him home, when he goes back below earth, from whence he came, when his soul — when the man — when the creature to which he has sold his soul takes him — he thinks that he will inherit that cult … they all think it.”

She then drew a comparison between Trump and cult leader Jim Jones, claiming that followers of such figures cannot simply be passed along to someone else.

“What they don’t understand is that when Jim Jones was gone, there was no other Jim Jones,” Reid said.

“Because cults are sui generis. They worship one person — not even God — they worship one god. And these people are a monotheistic cult. And the mono — the god — is named Donald Trump.”

Reid’s comments echo similar statements she made in 2019, where she described Trump support as “a racial and religious cult of personality” and claimed that many white evangelical Christians believed Trump was “the chosen one of God.”

Reid’s appearance comes after MSNBC canceled her show, The ReidOut, in February.

She had hosted the primetime program since July 2020.
