President Donald Trump announced this week that the White House will host a UFC fight with as many as 25,000 spectators sometime within the next year, as part of a series of events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Speaking at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, President Trump revealed plans to collaborate with UFC President Dana White to organize a championship bout on the White House grounds.

“Does anybody watch UFC? The great Dana White? We’re going to have a UFC fight. We’re going to have a UFC fight — think of this — on the grounds of the White House,” Trump said during his remarks in Iowa.

The event is expected to be one of the more high-profile components of the America250 initiative, which will feature national celebrations at historic landmarks, parks, and public venues across the country.

According to the president, the UFC event will be organized by White, and could draw a crowd of 20,000 to 25,000 attendees.

“We have a lot of land there, we’re going to build a little — we’re not, Dana is going to do it. Dana is great, one of a kind — going to be UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20,000 to 25,000 people, and we’re going to do that as part of ‘250’,” Trump, 79, said.

Trump is a longtime friend of White and a regular attendee at UFC events.

Last month, he appeared at a UFC fight in Newark featuring Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley.

Shortly after winning the Nov. 5, 2024 presidential election, he also attended a UFC match at Madison Square Garden in New York alongside Elon Musk, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Donald Trump Jr., and musician Kid Rock.

Trump’s visit to Iowa was scheduled to mark the launch of America250 programming in advance of the July 4, 2026 semiquincentennial, but the event also served to celebrate passage of his “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which cleared the House just hours earlier.

The bill includes tax relief on tips, overtime pay, and Social Security benefits — a key part of Trump’s campaign platform.

“We’re going to have some incredible events, some professional events, some amateur events. But the UFC fight is going to be a big deal, too,” Trump said.

The president detailed additional plans for the 250th anniversary, including celebrations at “every one of our national parks, battlefields and historic sites,” as well as large-scale events in states across the country.

One such event will be the “Great American State Fair,” which will take place in Iowa and at fairgrounds nationwide.

Trump also announced that a new National Garden of American Heroes would be officially opened during the commemorative year.

The outdoor monument will include statues honoring significant historical figures from American history.

Another element of the celebration will be the “Patriot Games,” a national athletic competition involving top high school athletes from each of the 50 states.

“Exactly one year from tomorrow, we will celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding with a birthday party the likes of which you have never seen before,” Trump said.

“Together, we’re going to ensure that America’s 250th anniversary is the single greatest year in the city of our country.”

Additional events are scheduled to take place in New York City, including “Sail4th 250,” a six-day festival featuring over 30 tall ships from international navies, aerial performances by the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels, and public displays of historical documents.

President Trump’s announcement of a UFC fight at the White House adds a new and unconventional element to the semiquincentennial agenda, highlighting his focus on engaging the public through high-visibility events and patriotic themes.
