The uncle of Antwan “Big Boi” Patton, co-founder of the hip-hop group Outkast, was shot and killed in a road rage incident on June 16 in Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

Authorities have charged two individuals in connection with the fatal shooting, as reported by the New York Post.

The victim, 62-year-old Remoin Patton, was discovered by officers on the 200 block of Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard NW around 5:30 p.m. following a 911 call.

Police say the incident began with a verbal altercation between Patton and another driver. During the confrontation, Patton was shot in the back while behind the wheel, causing his vehicle to crash into the front of a vacant residence.

“He was trying to turn onto another street when he was hit,” Chris Walker, who was staying at the home Patton crashed into, told WSBTV.

The car struck the front porch and part of the home’s structure. A tarp was later placed over the damaged area, according to footage obtained by the outlet.

Patton was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials later identified the suspected shooter as 18-year-old Jabryion Crumbley, who turned himself in to Fulton County Jail on July 2.

He is facing charges of murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Jail records confirm he remains in custody without bond.

Authorities also charged a second suspect, 32-year-old Janisha Crumbley, for allegedly hindering the apprehension of a felon. She was arrested on June 20 during a traffic stop. Janisha Crumbley was later released on a $30,000 surety bond.

Remoin Patton was the uncle of Big Boi, a prominent rapper who rose to national fame in the 1990s as part of the Grammy-winning group Outkast alongside André “André 3000” Benjamin.

Big Boi shared tributes to his uncle in a series of Facebook posts, including a three-minute video featuring family photos. In a statement to WSBTV, the rapper said:

“Everybody who knows Uncle Moonie heart aches. He wasn’t just ‘My’ Uncle, he was Unc to all that met him. A moment of rage has in totally pierced the heart of my family forever. May Uncle Moonie’s soul rest in peace.”
