Dems Launch New Plan to Reclaim the White House [WATCH]

Former Arizona Democratic Party chair Andrei Cherny is leading a new effort to help Democrats win back the presidency in 2028, but political strategists and analysts say the initiative may already be facing steep odds.

Cherny’s initiative, titled “Project 2029,” aims to produce a comprehensive policy platform that the eventual 2028 Democratic presidential nominee can adopt ahead of the next election cycle.

According to a report first published by The New York Times, Cherny hopes to emulate the structure and strategic preparation seen in the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025,” which was widely discussed throughout the 2024 campaign and played a key role in helping guide President Donald Trump’s policy framework for his second term.

Cherny told the Times that former Vice President Kamala Harris’s loss in the 2024 election was partially due to her failure to promote a clear agenda of her own.

“The oldest truism in politics is you can’t beat something with nothing,” he said.

Although the project is in its early stages, critics from both inside and outside the Democratic Party are casting doubt on its potential effectiveness.

Some have compared it unfavorably to the Republican effort, while others have pointed to deeper structural issues within the Democratic Party that may undercut any messaging platform put forward.

Adolph Mongo, a Democratic political commentator and former journalist, told the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) that the party is struggling to maintain its coalition and that Project 2029 is unlikely to reverse the trend.

“Project 2029 is a fantastic idea but unrealistic,” Mongo said.

“The Democratic Party is fractured. The far left has destroyed the party. Look at New York, a socialist Democrat might become mayor. In Detroit, a long-time Democratic mayor left the party. Democrats across the country are quitting the party and turning Republican. Their once loyal base is black and brown voters, [who] have abandoned the party.”

Mongo added that he does not believe the project will succeed in reconnecting with disaffected voters.

“For the last 50 years Democrats have made promises and not were able to deliver them. Democratic-run cities have been left out in the cold. Look at the crime and unemployment in our urban area,” he told DCNF.

Other analysts echoed similar concerns. Tom Basile, a contributor to the Daily Caller and host of Newsmax’s “America Right Now,” pointed to the party’s leftward drift as a reason voters remain skeptical.

“They don’t have credible messengers to even attempt to convince Americans that the party is capable of governing for the vast majority of Americans,” Basile said.

“The highest profile members of the Democratic Party are AOC, Bernie Sanders, and now Zohran Mamdani – all socialists. Socialism is not compatible with American life and most Americans know that.”

Mamdani, a New York Assemblyman, won the Democratic primary for New York City mayor in June 2024, a result that has sparked further debate over whether the party is moving even further left ahead of 2028.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is also reportedly facing internal divisions and financial strain.

According to the Times, major donor contributions have decreased significantly this year, creating additional challenges for the party as it tries to unify behind a clear agenda and prepare for the next national campaign.

“Delivering a message doesn’t only require a credible messenger, but also money and the DNC is flat broke at this point,” Basile said.

He also noted that the party’s embrace of far-left policies over the past several cycles has left many voters distrustful.

“Any claims on the part of Democrats that they are ready to moderate will be met with tremendous skepticism on the part of the public,” he said.

Basile added that recent Democratic support for tax increases could also hurt the party’s efforts to regain middle-class voters.

“This week, every Democrat in the U.S. Senate voted for the largest tax hike in American history,” he said.

Speculation continues to grow about potential Democratic presidential candidates for 2028.

Some prominent figures have started building national profiles, but strategists remain unconvinced that any one candidate can bridge the party’s internal divides.

“For nearly a decade, Democrats have said loud and clear to the American people that they care far more about transgenderism, militant censorship, boys playing in girls’ sports and open borders than making Americans more financially secure,” Basile said.

“The party has become anti-Democratic and intolerant while doubling down on an extreme fidelity to government programming that has proven to be a failure.”

He contrasted that with the current administration. “Donald Trump is the blue-collar billionaire who is speaking directly to the needs of the working men and women of this country and the middle class,” Basile said.

“His program of reform and realignment of power away from government systems to the empowerment of people has stolen core issues from the Democrat Party who have fallen back on radical social agendas to motivate voters. In that fight, the Republicans win regardless of what some document concocted by the DNC says.”
