California Governor Gavin Newsom is facing criticism following a social media post targeting Vice President J.D. Vance’s family while they visited Disneyland during a personal vacation.

Vice President Vance, his wife Usha, and their children traveled to Southern California for a family trip that included a visit to Disneyland in Anaheim. Despite the non-political nature of the visit, protests erupted at various locations around Orange County.

According to the Orange County Register, approximately 100 protesters gathered outside the Disneyland entrance during the Vance family’s arrival.

Additional protests occurred throughout Anaheim, reportedly including groups of elderly demonstrators.

On Saturday, a separate group assembled outside the Grand Californian Hotel, where the family was believed to be staying, KTLA reported.

Several protesters at that location were observed waving Mexican flags.

Orange County Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento addressed the protests during an interview with KTLA, saying, “I’m offended by the visit, because so many families are being terrorized by the policies from the federal government.”

Governor Newsom escalated tensions further by posting a message to his 2.3 million followers on X: “Hope you enjoy your family time, @JDVance. The families you’re tearing apart certainly won’t.”

The statement appears to reference an immigration enforcement operation carried out by federal authorities in nearby Ventura County days earlier.

During that operation, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents detained more than 300 individuals working illegally at a cannabis facility known as Glass House Farms.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that 14 minors were rescued during the raid.

Among those apprehended was a previously convicted sex offender.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott posted a photo of the man on X and wrote, “This illegal alien was apprehended at the CA marijuana facility. Turns out he had been sentenced to 7 yrs for kidnapping & attempted rape, w/ a prior conviction for attempted child molestation. And this felon was working at the same farm as 10 kids – one being 14 yrs old.”

While Newsom’s post was applauded by some Democratic figures, it was met with strong pushback online.

Independent legal analyst Viva Frei added, “You have been facilitating child trafficking for forced labor, Newscum. You’ve got some nerve trying to shame JD Vance for being a father.”

This is not the first time Vice President Vance’s family has been the target of protest actions since President Donald Trump returned to office in January.

In March, the Vance family was evacuated to a secure location during a ski trip after protesters surrounded their hotel.

Federal officials have not released further details regarding any additional arrests related to the Anaheim demonstrations.

The Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Secret Service have not commented publicly on the security measures taken during the vice president’s visit.

The raid on the cannabis operation in Ventura County remains under investigation for possible labor and trafficking violations.
