An explosion at a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department training facility early Friday morning resulted in multiple fatalities, according to law enforcement sources, as reported by the New York Post.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the Biscailuz Center Academy Training Facility in East Los Angeles, where the department’s arson and explosives detail and bomb squad are headquartered.
Officials have not confirmed the total number of casualties, but sources told KTLA that three deputies are believed to have died in the explosion. It remains unclear how many others were injured.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been officially determined. However, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times that members of the bomb squad had been moving explosives at the time of the incident.
It is not known whether the blast occurred during a training exercise or routine storage operation.

Aerial footage from local news outlets showed a sheriff’s vehicle with its rear windshield shattered inside the training complex. Explosives trucks and a backpack were also visible near the blast site.
No additional details have been provided by the department regarding the condition of others who may have been nearby or whether additional explosive materials were involved.
Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that she had spoken with Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna and U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli to coordinate a federal response.
In a post on X, Bondi stated, “We have FBI and [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] agents on the ground to support. Please pray for the entire Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office said he has been briefed on the explosion but has not released further information at this time.
The Biscailuz Center serves as one of the main training sites for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The bomb squad based at the facility is tasked with handling explosive materials throughout the county.
