Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year sentence in Florida’s Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, is reportedly holding out hope that her conviction will be overturned and that a change in presidential administration will work in her favor.

Maxwell, 63, was convicted in 2021 on multiple federal charges for recruiting and grooming underage girls on behalf of deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Since then, she has served three years behind bars. A source inside the prison told The New York Post that Maxwell remains focused on her appeal and had previously expressed optimism about her prospects if Donald Trump returned to the White House.

“Max was very into her appeal,” the source said.

“That was the biggest thing that was always happening. Before, she would tell everybody that she was waiting for Donald Trump to be reelected and become president, that things were going to be different then.”

“Freedom is 100% her focus,” the source added.

“She says, ‘I will not be here in 20 years.’”

Following President Trump’s election victory, Maxwell’s legal team filed a petition with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to overturn her conviction.

The Trump administration’s Justice Department this week responded to that appeal, arguing that Maxwell is not protected by the non-prosecution agreement Epstein signed with federal prosecutors in Florida in 2007.

Her brother, Ian Maxwell, interpreted the Justice Department’s response as a potential sign of progress in her case.

“It signals that they are in trouble and that Ghislaine’s case is legitimate,” he told the Daily Mail.

President Trump, who has publicly demanded transparency in the Epstein investigation and backed Attorney General Pam Bondi, also took legal action last week.

The Trump administration formally asked a Manhattan federal judge to unseal grand jury transcripts related to the Epstein and Maxwell prosecutions.

The Epstein controversy resurfaced after a Wall Street Journal report alleged that Maxwell had assembled a birthday album for Epstein’s 50th birthday in 2003, which reportedly included a letter from Trump with birthday wishes and a hand-drawn sketch of a nude woman.

In response, President Trump filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit Friday against the Wall Street Journal, its publisher Dow Jones, and parent company News Corp.

“We have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting, and will vigorously defend against any lawsuit,” a Dow Jones spokesperson said in a statement.

While her legal team presses forward with appeals, Maxwell reportedly maintains regular contact with her attorneys and spends much of her time writing in a personal journal.

“She documents absolutely everything, and she carries it with her,” the prison source said.

“I don’t know if she’s going to use the journal for something someday or if she’s going to get out and write a book. But she has got documentation in case something happens.”

Maxwell has offered to testify before Congress regarding Epstein’s client list, which officials have said does not exist. Despite her central role in Epstein’s operation, the source noted that she rarely speaks about him.

“She never mentions Epstein inside,” the source said.

“She mentioned to people, though… how she was at Chelsea Clinton’s wedding.”

Inside FCI Tallahassee, Maxwell reportedly follows a consistent routine that includes work in the law library, instructing a business class, and participating in yoga and Pilates.

Her interactions with inmates and staff have been mixed. According to the source, Maxwell has developed a small circle of close companions, including Narcy Novak, convicted in 2012 for orchestrating the murders of her husband and mother-in-law, and another woman convicted of Medicare fraud.

Maxwell and her group reportedly took shifts as orderlies to gain access to a more private area within the facility.

“She would not shower if there weren’t a lot of people,” the source said.

“Max would just skip showers and was very cognizant of her surroundings, so if she were susceptible or in a vulnerable situation, she definitely would watch out for herself.”

Her notoriety has reportedly made her a target for both staff and inmates.

“The staff also weren’t fond of her because of who she was and her notoriety, so it caused extra issues for them, and they probably treated her a little harsher,” the source added.

Ian Maxwell said he is concerned about his sister’s safety.

“It’s a possibility someone might get to her. I don’t want to be dramatic but you can’t discount it. Look what happened to Epstein,” he told the Daily Mail.

Still, Ian Maxwell remains hopeful. “My sister is innocent and… she will be released some day in the future,” he said.

Prison consultant Holli Coulman of Wall Street Prison Consultants echoed that sentiment. “Ghislaine has that hope that she won’t be facing a life sentence,” she said.

“She believes she will be able to get out in the next couple of years or even months. Ghislaine’s mind is focused on, ‘This is not a life sentence for me.’”

Despite speculation, the White House made its position clear on Friday.

“There have been no discussions or consideration of a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, and there never will be,” a senior White House official told The New York Post.
