And Keith Olbermann Wonders Why He’s Not a Big Name Anymore

When Keith Olbermann was at ESPN, I liked him. His sports commentary was enjoyable, and I watched him and Dan Patrick all the time. I was a fan.

Then he decided to branch out and start getting into political commentary, and it turned out he was delusional as a rabid ferret dipping into the MK Ultra supply closet.

Since he left MSNBC, he’s fallen further and further into obscurity. From cable news headliner to X reply guy, Olbermann is far from a big name these days.

But that doesn’t mean he’s completely irrelevant.

For example, he can highlight some of the more stupid arguments about things like the Second Amendment, which he did not all that long ago. Someone asked Elon Musk where his America Party stood on gun rights. Olbermann didn’t like the answer.

And you think you’re getting Democrats

The second amendment is NOT about gun ownership. If it were it. would have a word like OWN in it🤦🏼‍♂️

Yes, Keith, “keep and bear” means we need to check firearms out from the library. Or maybe there’s a service like the old Netflix, only one where a company will ship you a rental gun for a few days before you have to return it.

Seriously, this is the most ridiculous argument. Here’s how Dictionary.com defines “keep.”

verb (used with object)

kept, keeping

  1. to hold or retain in one’s possession; hold as one’s own.

If you like it, keep it. Keep the change.

Mirriam-Webster defines it as:

transitive verb

1

a

: to retain in one’s possession or power

kept the money we found

Why, it looks like both of those definitions suggest ownership. Further, Mirriam-Webster lists “own” as one of the synonyms or similar words for “keep.”

I mean, I suppose it could be theoretically possible that “keep and bear arms” means the government hands us guns that we keep and carry with us, but since the government never did that during the Founding Fathers’ era, I kind of doubt that’s what they had in mind. Plus, it’s not like the government can afford to do anything like that in the first place, so it’s a non-starter.

Now, I get that Keith isn’t the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. He never was. Olbermann’s worldview has been warped for a long time, but this is dumb even by his standards.

And yeah, he’s not alone in this “thinking,” either.

A lot of people have a similarly warped view of language. The whole “well-regulated” thing is bad enough, but I can at least see why people think that means what they think it means. They’re using a modern usage for a term that meant something very different when those words were written.

But “keep and bear” pretty much means the same thing, more or less, today as it did then. It sure as hell means the same when it comes to the right to keeping and bearing arms.

It’s absolutely inane to try and pretend that because your preferred verb isn’t included, that none of the definitions of the verbs that are included mean anything.

It’s also inane that we keep having to have vocabulary and grammar lessons all the time when discussing a fundamental, constitutionally protected right.

Then again, there’s a reason Keith Olbermann is reduced to screaming at people, begging for attention on X.

Editor’s Note: Goofballs like Olbermann have their First Amendment rights, but so do we, and we’re using them to push back on their anti-gun idiocy.
