A forensic accountant with the Department of Justice says she was terminated after federal officials discovered her husband was behind a controversial mobile app that alerts users to nearby Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity.

Carolyn Feinstein, based in Texas, worked for the DOJ for nearly a decade, specializing in bankruptcy fraud cases.

She claims she was removed from her position as retaliation for her husband’s political activism and technological work.

Feinstein is married to Joshua Aaron, the developer of the “ICEBlock” app, which sends alerts to users when ICE agents are reportedly within a five-mile radius.

The app, which has nearly one million downloads, is designed to notify illegal aliens and their supporters of potential immigration enforcement activity in their vicinity.

Following Aaron’s public appearance in a June interview with CNN, in which he detailed how the app operates, the couple reportedly received online backlash.

“When I saw what was happening in this country, I wanted to do something to fight back,” Aaron told CNN.

He also compared Trump administration immigration enforcement to the Nazi regime of the 1930s, stating, “We’re literally watching history repeat itself.”

Aaron’s remarks prompted immediate criticism from federal officials.

Border Czar Tom Homan and ICE Acting Director Tom Lyon both called on the DOJ to investigate any federal employee linked to the app.

“The DOJ’s looking at it, and they need to throw some people in jail,” Homan said in an interview with Newsmax.

“All [Aaron is] doing is giving a heads up to criminals.”

Feinstein told The Daily Beast that she preemptively disclosed her relationship to Aaron to her supervisors after the CNN segment aired.

“Since we live in the same house, I thought it was pertinent to contact my employer, the DOJ, to notify them of death threats that were coming in and just in case I needed to be out of the office,” she said.

“So they would be prepared.”

Following that notification, Feinstein said she was contacted by DOJ officials and questioned about any involvement with the ICEBlock app.

“I informed them in so many words that I really didn’t have any relationship or involvement in the app,” she stated.

“I was married to the creator.”

According to Feinstein, she received her termination notice within 24 hours of Homan’s Newsmax appearance.

“This was retribution,” she told The Daily Beast.

“I was fired because of the actions, or activism, of my husband. It is insulting to me because I dedicated myself and my career to serving the people of the United States, and now the DOJ is claiming I was attempting to harm some of them. And that’s not true.”

A DOJ spokesperson responded, stating the department had conducted a weeks-long investigation and determined Feinstein had an ownership stake in All U Chart Inc., the company that holds the intellectual property rights to the ICEBlock app.

“ICEBlock is an app that illegal aliens use to evade capture while endangering the lives of ICE officers,” the DOJ said in a statement.

“The department will not tolerate threats against law enforcement or law enforcement officers.”

Feinstein acknowledged that she holds a minority shareholder interest in the company, but claimed it was solely as a precaution.

“It’s just a safety net so that if Joshua were incapacitated, or further, I have the ability to shut it down,” she said.

Aaron, when contacted again by The Daily Beast, reiterated his stance.

“We will not be intimidated. We will not be deterred. As long as ICE agents have quotas, and this administration ignores people’s Constitutional rights, we will continue fighting back. No human is illegal.”

The DOJ has not indicated whether any criminal charges are being considered at this time.

The investigation into Feinstein’s involvement with ICEBlock and her formal termination remain under review.
