People come up with all kinds of places to hide things from the police. They’re quite sure the cops will never look in those places, but they often do.

Young people, though, are especially dumb about some of this kind of thing. They don’t know anything, though as teenagers, they generally think they know everything, and so they’re pretty sure they’re very clever with their hiding places.

A group of half a dozen juveniles was arrested in Indiana for having guns and also having some other “goodies” stashed in bizarre places where, sure enough, the police found them.

St. Joseph County Police found guns and accessories hidden in odd locations.

On Wednesday, officers responded to a disturbance in the 1000 block of Royal Vineyards Drive and when they arrived they saw a male juvenile holding a firearm.

Firearms and illegal accessories were hidden by teens in St. Joseph County.

…

Early Wednesday morning, police responded to a disturbance call which lead to the discovery of guns and firearm accessories hidden in odd places.

Police found 6 juveniles; all appeared to be intoxicated and uncooperative.

Two were seen with guns.

So there was definitely probable cause.

Police found a gun hidden in the oven–which tells you how often they cooked. They found an extended magazine in a box of chips. They found a full-auto switch inside the toilet bowl, which raises questions I really don’t want answered.

Three of the six juveniles are being held at a youth detention facility.

All six appear not to be destined to work for NASA or SpaceX.

Now, Indiana isn’t an anti-gun state by any stretch of the imagination, but these are kids. They can’t lawfully buy guns or ammunition, yet here they are.

Unfortunately, many will chalk this up to lax gun laws, but the truth of the matter is that these kids likely got these guns and other items via criminal means. I mean, they had a full-auto switch, which isn’t legal anywhere in the world, much less the United States. If they had one of those, then what else could they get?

Exactly.

At some point, people need to understand how criminals get guns and recognize that new laws aren’t going to change that. These were kids, apparently, all young enough to be considered juveniles. At age 16, they can be tried as an adult for felonies in the state of Indiana, so we’ll have to see how they’re tried for these charges, but I suspect they’re under that age.

And, of course, they were intoxicated. The report doesn’t say what they were intoxicated with, but since none of that can be obtained legally by a minor, either, it seems they have a history of getting stuff they legally can’t purchase.

Funny, that.

This isn’t unusual for criminal behavior, though. This is what we see throughout the nation, even as anti-gunners try to pretend otherwise. Bad guys are getting guns despite the laws meant to thwart them. They just sidestep them.

And if kids can get guns, then how are you going to keep adult criminals from getting them?

Especially when the kids are stupid enough to think these were valid hiding places?

OK, it’s possible the adults in their lives stashed the guns, but since no adults were arrested or are sought, I can’t assume that to be the case, which means that so far as I can tell based on the information available to me, these stupid kids are the ones who did it all on their own.

And that’s just sad.
