Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) criticized Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard during an appearance on Fox News, calling her recent allegations about former President Barack Obama’s involvement in the Russia investigation “dangerous” and describing her as a “weapon of mass distraction.”

The remarks were made during an interview on Fox News Sunday, where Crow responded to questions regarding Gabbard’s July 18 disclosure of government documents that, according to her office, outline direct involvement by senior Obama-era officials — including Obama himself — in launching and overseeing operations targeting then-presidential candidate Donald Trump in 2016.

Fox News anchor Shannon Bream pressed Crow on whether an independent investigation or the appointment of a special counsel was warranted to examine the contents of Gabbard’s memo and related records.

“I’ve pored through these documents. I hope you’ve had a chance to go through them, too,” Bream said.

“Do you think a special counsel is warranted at this point, or some type of investigation to reassure people, regardless of party, that they can be assured that top officials are not going to be up to no good?”

Crow dismissed the suggestion and criticized Gabbard’s conduct.

“Well, you know, the allegations and the conspiracy theories by Tulsi Gabbard would be sad if they weren’t so dangerous,” he responded.

“She has turned herself into basically a weapon of mass distraction, is what I’ve been calling it, because it’s very clear what’s happening here. She’s trying to curry favor and get back into favor with Donald Trump, and has concocted these theories to do so.”

He continued, “But let’s be really clear here that the Russian investigation and allegations of Russian interference into the election have been the most examined and reexamined finding in the intelligence community history.”

Gabbard’s release of documents on July 18 included a memo alleging that former President Obama was briefed and signed off on activities related to the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation — an operation that later became the foundation for the years-long probe into alleged ties between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russian officials.

The memo was accompanied by Gabbard’s formal referral to the Department of Justice requesting a criminal investigation into several former officials, including Obama, former FBI Director James Comey, former CIA Director John Brennan, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

According to her statement, the documents “demonstrate a coordinated effort to interfere in the 2016 election and the peaceful transition of power.”

Crow’s comments arrive as questions continue to surface regarding the origins and conduct of the Russia investigation.

In 2023, Special Counsel John Durham released a final report concluding that the FBI “did not and could not corroborate” the core allegations outlined in the Steele dossier — a document used to obtain surveillance warrants on members of Trump’s campaign team.

Durham’s report also noted political bias within the FBI’s leadership, referencing internal communications from senior agents including Peter Strzok and Andrew McCabe that expressed personal hostility toward Trump during the investigation.
