Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts fell on the Senate floor Wednesday while attempting to sit on a small desk during a vote.

The moment was caught on video, showing Warren losing her balance and tumbling backward. Several Republican senators, including Ted Cruz of Texas and Susan Collins of Maine, were seen rushing to help.

Warren appeared to regain her footing quickly and did not suffer any visible injuries. Cruz extended a hand to assist her as she stood up, and other senators, including Rand Paul of Kentucky and John Barrasso of Wyoming, also approached to offer help.

The fall occurred during a vote on two separate resolutions that sought to block U.S. arms sales to Israel.

The measures were introduced by Vermont independent Sen. Bernie Sanders and ultimately failed to pass.

Every Republican senator voted against the resolutions, and they were joined by 20 Democrats in opposition.

The incident involving Warren took place just off the main Senate floor, in a side area where members sometimes congregate or speak privately during votes.

As Warren attempted to sit on the edge of a desk, she appeared to misjudge her position and slipped, falling backwards onto the floor.

Senators and aides nearby reacted quickly, with several crossing the floor to check on her condition.

The Massachusetts Democrat was able to stand on her own, and after the brief interruption, voting resumed.

The resolutions Warren was present to vote on were aimed at halting U.S. military assistance to Israel in the wake of continued fighting in Gaza.

Despite increasing pressure from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, the measures were rejected by a bipartisan majority, highlighting the continued support for U.S.-Israel defense cooperation in the Senate.

Capitol Hill sources said she continued with her schedule following the vote.

The fall drew comparisons to similar incidents involving Joe Biden during his time in office.

In March 2021, Biden stumbled multiple times while ascending the stairs to Air Force One ahead of a visit to Atlanta, Georgia.

He also tripped during the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation ceremony on June 1, 2023.

Concerns about Biden’s balance and physical condition were addressed by his physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, who reportedly warned White House aides that another serious fall could result in the need for a wheelchair.

That detail was revealed in the book Original Sin by Axios reporter Alex Thompson and CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Following the warning, Biden’s team took additional steps to minimize the risk of future falls, recognizing the political consequences such incidents could have in the lead-up to the 2024 election.

According to reports, aides modified aspects of the president’s travel and public appearance routines to reduce the likelihood of further stumbles.

While Warren’s fall did not appear to cause injury, it marked another high-profile moment where a prominent Democrat encountered a physical misstep on camera.

The Senate vote continued without delay, and the resolutions blocking U.S. arms sales to Israel were ultimately rejected.
