An illegal alien from Honduras is facing attempted murder charges following a violent stabbing incident at a public soccer game in Alabama.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued an immigration detainer against the suspect to prevent his release.

According to DHS and law enforcement officials, 20-year-old Javier Lopez Tinoco was arrested on July 29 by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office in connection to the stabbing of a victim during a soccer match in Summerdale, Alabama, on July 19.

Tinoco allegedly fled the scene following the assault, which left the victim with three stab wounds.

Authorities have not released the current condition of the victim.

Tinoco was located and taken into custody ten days after the incident.

When law enforcement arrested him, they reported that he was in possession of four small bags of cocaine.

Following the arrest, ICE filed an immigration detainer with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office to ensure Tinoco remains in custody and does not reenter the community.

The detainer is intended to facilitate his removal proceedings in addition to the criminal charges he is currently facing.

DHS officials also confirmed that Tinoco has a previous arrest on record. In 2024, he was taken into custody for public intoxication.

The department stated that Tinoco is among the types of individuals targeted by ICE due to repeated criminal conduct and immigration violations.

“A man was nearly KILLED because this Honduran illegal alien decided to go on a stabbing spree. These are the type of criminal illegal aliens ICE is working to get off our streets and out of our country,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

“ICE lodged a detainer to ensure this criminal will never be loose in American neighborhoods again,” McLaughlin continued.

“President [Donald] Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem will continue to put the safety of Americans FIRST.”

The DHS statement noted that crime victims affected by illegal alien offenders can access resources and support through the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office.

The office can be reached at 1-855-488-6423.

Javier Lopez Tinoco remains in custody in Baldwin County as he faces charges related to attempted murder and drug possession.

His immigration status will be handled in conjunction with the ongoing criminal investigation.

Local authorities and DHS continue to coordinate in ensuring Tinoco is prosecuted and ultimately removed from the country if convicted.
