British journalist and television host Piers Morgan criticized the Democratic Party during a Friday appearance on Fox News’ The Five, stating the party is in “complete and utter shambles” and will not win back voters until it regains its “common sense.”

Morgan’s comments came during a segment discussing recent media appearances by Kamala Harris, who joined CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday to promote her upcoming book and speak about current political issues.

According to Morgan, Harris’s performance and the broader state of Democratic leadership underscored the party’s continued struggle to connect with voters.

“Speaking frankly, as your friend from across the pond, they are in complete and utter shambles, aren’t they? The Democrats. They’ve hit record low approval polls,” Morgan said.

“She [Kamala Harris] talks about a broken system and her big book.”

Morgan announced his own forthcoming book, titled Woke is Dead, and said Harris’s appearance alongside Colbert, a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, reflected the lingering mindset of a party out of touch with voters.

“In a way, listening to her words, saluting away with Colbert, who is the epitome of the late night woke guy who hates Trump and everything about him and believes all the nonsense that the Democrats have spewed the last few years… You know, woke is dead. They just haven’t got the memo yet,” Morgan said.

“So what you’re seeing is the last kind of vestiges of that mindset, which was repudiated in the most spectacular fashion in the last election.”

President Trump secured reelection in November, defeating Kamala Harris.

Since that loss, Democratic leaders have faced mounting questions over the party’s messaging and leadership going forward.

New polling from outlets including The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and Gallup has shown the party registering record-low favorability ratings among voters.

On Friday, CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten noted that Democrats remain “historically divided” and lack a clear front-runner for the 2028 presidential race.

“They’re wondering why Donald Trump got reelected,” Morgan said.

“Partly it’s his huge personality, his policies about the economy, about immigration and so on. But also because he saw through the number one fault line, I think, of the Democrats, the absolute abandonment of common sense. And you can chart it, really.”

Morgan added, “The moment you try and convince the public that it’s perfectly reasonable and fair to have a six-foot four-inch man dominating in a women’s sport like swimming or athletics or whatever, you have lost your marbles.”

Harris’s interview on The Late Show came just days after she confirmed she would not run for governor of California in 2026, fueling speculation about a potential 2028 presidential campaign.

Harris stated during the interview that she was “looking forward to getting back out and listening to the American people.”

Morgan questioned the party’s lack of a clear successor, noting that Harris avoided naming a future Democratic leader.

“I do think history shows somebody is going to come through here. They’ve got to get somebody like a Bill Clinton. They’ve got to get somebody in the center who can return them to at least looking and sounding like they understand common sense,” Morgan said.

“I don’t know who that person is, but they’ve got to do it fast, because, right now, looking at Kamala, looking at Biden, I mean, my God, the idea that if that guy had won and had become president for the next four years of the United States, he can barely move.”

Though the 2028 presidential field remains speculative, early reports suggest potential Democratic contenders may include California Governor Gavin Newsom, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
