President Donald Trump offered praise for actress Sydney Sweeney on Sunday after learning she is registered as a Republican, weighing in on the controversy surrounding her American Eagle jeans ad that has drawn criticism from left-wing activists.

Trump, 79, was departing Allentown, Pennsylvania, aboard Air Force One when a reporter informed him that the 27-year-old actress, known for her roles in “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus,” is registered with the Republican Party.

“Oh, now I love her ad,” Trump told reporters.

“You’d be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That’s one I wouldn’t have known but I’m glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.”

🚨 LMAO! President Trump’s reaction to Sydney Sweeney being a registered Republican is GOLDEN

Public voter registration records reviewed by the New York Post confirm that Sweeney has been a registered Republican in Monroe County, Florida, since June 2024.

The actress has been facing criticism online over a new American Eagle jeans campaign.

The campaign, which includes both photo and video advertisements, features the slogan “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”

In one ad, Sweeney is shown discussing how genetic traits such as hair color and eye color are passed down, before ending with the line, “my jeans are blue.”

In another segment, Sweeney is seen altering a billboard that originally reads, “Sydney Sweeney has great genes,” by crossing out the word “genes” and replacing it with “jeans.”

Despite the intended wordplay, critics on social media accused the campaign of promoting “Western beauty standards” and even likened it to “Nazi propaganda.”

The backlash triggered widespread debate and led American Eagle to defend both the actress and the campaign.

Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, addressed the controversy on Tuesday, calling the outrage “cancel culture run amok.”

Vice President J.D. Vance also addressed the situation during a segment on the “Ruthless” podcast released Friday.

Vance criticized Democrats for focusing their attention on a celebrity ad campaign rather than substantive issues.

“My political advice to the Democrats is: continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive that they’re a Nazi,” Vance said.

“That appears to be their actual strategy. So you have a pretty girl doing a jeans ad and they can’t help but freak out. It reveals a lot more about them than it does us.”

The reaction to Sweeney’s voter registration comes amid heightened tensions between entertainment figures and online political critics.

While some celebrities have been vocal in their political stances, Sweeney has largely remained private until the voter record disclosure.
