Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast announced it will close its final two Louisiana clinics—located in Baton Rouge and New Orleans—by September 30, 2025.

The decision marks what pro-life organizations are calling a major victory in their decades-long campaign to shut down the abortion provider, as reported by Fox News.

Shawn Carney, CEO and founder of 40 Days for Life, told Fox News Digital that the closures represent a “huge success” for the pro-life movement. Carney’s organization has held vigils outside Planned Parenthood locations for nearly 20 years.

“The only remaining Planned Parenthoods in the state of Louisiana, in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, are closing because they can’t do abortions there,” Carney said.

“Planned Parenthood survives financially on abortions, and they survive financially on the American taxpayer. This is a huge success for the pro-life movement.”

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast currently operates six clinics in the Houston area and two in Louisiana. It recently announced the closure of two Houston-area centers—Prevention Park and Southwest—which included what was once the largest abortion facility in the Western Hemisphere. The remaining Houston clinics are set to be acquired by a larger Planned Parenthood affiliate.

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast President Melaney Linton blamed the Louisiana closures on political pressure.

“This is not a decision we wanted to make; it is one we were forced into by political warfare,” Linton said. “Anti-reproductive health lawmakers obsessed with power and control have spent decades fighting the concept that people deserve to control their own bodies.”

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry responded on X, calling the closures a “major win for the pro-life movement” and stating that abortion “should NEVER be considered healthcare.”

MAJOR PRO-LIFE WIN

State Attorney General Liz Murrill also welcomed the news, writing, “Planned Parenthood built its business around promoting death. Louisiana chooses life. We will always protect women and babies.”

Though abortion is banned under Louisiana law, Planned Parenthood has continued to operate by offering referrals for out-of-state abortions and other services.

However, Carney noted that the organization’s dependency on abortions and taxpayer funding makes such operations unsustainable in pro-life states.

“This will be the 40th Planned Parenthood to close in 2025,” Carney said, adding that he expects 25 to 30 more closures before the end of Planned Parenthood’s fiscal year on September 30.

Carney also cited the organization’s declining support. According to him, Planned Parenthood lost 78,000 individual donors last year. He emphasized that the group’s claim that abortions represent only 3% of its services is misleading.

“It’s like McDonald’s saying that only 3% of their business is selling french fries,” Carney said. “If that were true, they wouldn’t be closing all these facilities in pro-life states where you can’t do abortions.”

Carney and other pro-life leaders predict further consolidation of Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country, including more mergers between struggling branches.

Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood clinic director turned pro-life advocate, recently echoed that forecast.

A GOP-backed provision in Congress aims to cut off Medicaid funding for one year to any abortion provider receiving more than $800,000 annually.

Though that provision is currently blocked by a federal judge, the Trump administration has expressed continued support for stripping taxpayer funding from abortion providers.

Carney concluded by saying that if Planned Parenthood wants to operate as a nonprofit, it should raise money independently like other nonprofits do.
