Democrats are desperate for a “new Obama.” For now, the old Obama remains a party fixture. And he may be teeing up a socialist successor.
Former President Barack Obama reportedly phoned New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist, following Mamdani’s primary victory. (RELATED: One Of Democrats’ Biggest Losers Back With Midterm Advice)
“In a lengthy call in June, Mr. Obama congratulated Mr. Mamdani, offered him advice about governing and discussed the importance of giving people hope in a dark time, according to people with knowledge of the conversation,” The New York Times (NYT) reports. I called Zohran Mamdani the “Muslim Obama.”
Remember how Obama got his dreams from his lunatic anti-colonial African father?
The same appears to be true with Mamdani.

Other Obamaworld players also have eyes on Mamdani, the NYT claims, such as speechwriter Jon Favreau and former senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer.
Obama’s chief campaign strategist and senior adviser, David Axelrod, even made a trip to Mamdani’s campaign headquarters, the NYT reports.
“What I found when I went over to that office was a familiar spirit that I hadn’t seen in a while of just determined, upbeat idealism,” Mr. Axelrod reportedly told the outlet. “You may not agree with every answer he’s giving, or every idea he has, but he’s certainly asking the right questions, which is how do we make the country work for working people?”
He’s also asking questions like, ‘How do we make life worse for white people?’ and ‘How do we make life worse for smart people?’
Much has been made of Mamdani’s attitude. Beto O’Rourke praised the candidate’s “joy.” Democrats are desperately searching their ranks for an under-eighty candidate with a shred of charisma in his possession. Mamdani may be the best they’ve got.

Obama’s circle may view Mamdani “not as a threat or a liability, but as a promising figure in a Democratic Party with a pressing need for fresh blood,” the NYT speculates.
The election of Obama was supposed to usher in a golden age of American prosperity, harmony, and goodwill among men. Racism was dead. Soon, we’d all get to stop talking about it.
Not so much. A few years of retrospect in hand, Obama’s presidency appears an accelerant for a strain of radical grievance politics. It was a reasonably effective strategy. But it only takes one whisper that the Emperor has no clothes for the crowd to turn hostile. (RELATED: Feel-Good Scheme From Top Democrat Is A Recipe For Disaster)
Democrats have a choice. “Put the woke away,” or put it front and center. If Obama publicly embraces Mamdani, it will be hard to read as anything but a hard swing towards the latter.
