Biden, Obama-Appointed Judges Let Man Accused of Threatening Trump, Miller, and Bondi Go with GPS Monitor [WATCH]

A Rhode Island man accused of threatening to assassinate President Donald J. Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller remains free on bail despite federal prosecutors’ requests that he be detained pending trial, as reported by Breitbart.

Carl D. Montague, 37, of Providence, was indicted this week by a grand jury on charges of making threats against the President and interstate communications of threats, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island.

The charges stem from a June 27 post on Truth Social that federal investigators say contained explicit threats to shoot and kill the three officials.

According to an FBI affidavit, Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, alerted the U.S. Secret Service to the threat.

The post, made by a user with the handle “@tacoustic,” was traced to Montague. Agents located him on June 30 hiding in the bathtub of an associate’s apartment.

The affidavit states Montague began confessing to making the threats before agents had identified themselves or explained their presence.

Montague allegedly told agents he had been smoking marijuana when he posted the message, later deleted his Truth Social account, and claimed he had no weapons, no means to travel to carry out any violence, and no actual intent to harm.

He expressed remorse for the post but said he was upset with current politics.

Montague was arrested on July 9. Despite four prior assault convictions between 2014 and 2022, and multiple probation violations, U.S. Magistrate Judge Amy Moses, an Obama appointee, released him on $10,000 bond with conditions.

Less than a week later, the Department of Justice filed a motion to revoke his release, citing his history of violence, failure to comply with court-ordered mental health and substance abuse treatment, and what prosecutors called his inability to control his aggression.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Dulce Donovan argued in the motion that Montague’s release endangered the safety of those he threatened and the community, noting his verbal outburst at reporters outside the courthouse following his initial appearance.

On July 25, U.S. District Judge Melissa R. DuBose, appointed by President Biden in January 2025, denied the DOJ’s request to detain Montague. Instead, she ordered that he wear a GPS ankle monitor, comply with an 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew, and remain under supervision.

An arraignment date for Montague on the grand jury indictment has not yet been set.

He should be in jail but for two Federal judges.
