Baby Emmanuel’s Parents Arrested for Murder After Claiming He Was Abducted in Cabazon, California [WATCH]

The parents of a missing California infant were arrested Friday morning on suspicion of murder, one week after claiming their seven-month-old son had been abducted, as reported by The Daily Mail.

Jake Mitchell Haro and his wife, Rebecca Haro, were taken into custody during a raid at their home in Cabazon, California. Their son, Emmanuel Haro, was last seen on August 15.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrests and stated investigators will continue searching for the child.

The arrests came a day after authorities said Jake Haro had been cooperating with the investigation. Earlier in the week, investigators seized his car.

Rebecca Haro initially told police she was attacked from behind outside a Big 5 sporting goods store in Yucaipa, California, while changing her son’s diaper.

She claimed she lost consciousness and awoke with a black eye, realizing Emmanuel was gone. However, investigators later identified inconsistencies in her story.

Court records revealed Jake Haro has a criminal history. He was convicted of felony willful child cruelty in June 2023 for a 2018 incident in Hemet, California, where he was accused of beating a child so severely the victim suffered a brain injury.

He served 180 days in jail and remains on probation, with a suspended sentence of six years.

Haro is scheduled to appear in court again on September 2 for an alleged parole violation that could return him to prison. He was previously acquitted of charges related to illegal firearm and ammunition possession.

During questioning, Rebecca Haro reportedly stopped cooperating when investigators challenged her account of the disappearance.

Emmanuel’s grandmother told local media that police requested the couple take lie detector tests, but Jake Haro declined without legal representation. Witnesses also told police they had seen Rebecca with a black eye a day before she claimed to have been attacked.

The Uvalde Foundation for Kids, which initially offered a $5,000 reward for Emmanuel’s safe return, withdrew its support, citing contradictions in the parents’ accounts and their refusal to fully cooperate.

“We cannot in good conscience, utilize our team and resources when so much is missing in this case,” the group said.

Despite this, the Haros continued to make public appeals for Emmanuel’s return. In a television interview, Rebecca said, “He’s a happy boy. He was a healthy baby, he was crawling, he was kicking, he was playing with his toys. Whoever took our son, please give him back.”

Jake added, “Whoever took my son, please return him. We just want him back. We won’t do anything to you. Just give us our son.”

Deputies used cadaver dogs during a weekend search of the Haro residence, though investigators said they have not ruled out foul play.

Family and friends held search efforts outside the Yucaipa sporting goods store, distributing flyers with Emmanuel’s description. He is described as 21 pounds, 24 inches tall, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a noticeable cross-eye. He was last seen wearing a black Nike onesie.

Authorities have not released any suspect information. The investigation remains ongoing.
