House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer told Democratic New Mexico Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez on Wednesday that she wants another hearing on Ghislaine Maxwell because she is “mad” that she “exonerated” President Donald Trump.

Fernandez demanded that the committee hold a hearing on Maxwell’s transfer to a minimum security prison following her two-day deposition with U.S. deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. Comer said while there will be another hearing, it will not be for Democrats to “score political points” rather than seek justice for the victims of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and Maxwell’s sex trafficking operation.

“You want to have a whole hearing, a whole entire hearing not about the victims, not about a government coverup, not about human trafficking, but about Maxwell, who you all were like begging to be deposed when I did the subpoena, now you’re mad because she exonerated Trump. We brought in [former Attorney General] Bill Barr, who, I don’t think it’s any secret that he and Trump aren’t best of friends,” Comer said, before getting interrupted by Fernandez. The Department of Justice (DOJ) released the transcript of Maxwell’s deposition on Aug. 22, where she answered questions on her relationship with Epstein and his crimes. Maxwell testified that she “never” saw Trump “in any inappropriate setting” and had always been a “gentleman.”

“I actually never saw the President in any type of massage setting,” Maxwell told Blanche. “I never witnessed the President in any inappropriate setting in any way. The President was never inappropriate with anybody.”

Maxwell also said during the interview that she could not recall Epstein receiving a birthday card from Trump in 2003 and noted that she did not receive one in the discovery materials she was shown during her New York prosecution. Trump sued the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) in July for alleging that Trump had sent Epstein the birthday card with a drawing of a nude stick figure woman.

Following the deposition, Maxwell moved to the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) in Bryan, Texas, after having been housed in a maximum security prison. She is serving a 20-year sentence relating to her conviction for trafficking underage girls and training them to perform sex acts for Epstein.

Epstein entered the media spotlight in July after the DOJ concluded that the disgraced financier committed suicide inside his cell and did not possess a client list. Two guards on duty during the night of Epstein’s death falsely claimed they had done their regular checks, and later got their charges dropped by the DOJ for complying with their deferred prosecution agreement.

Dr. Michael Baden, a forensic pathologist hired by Epstein’s brother, told “Fox & Friends” in October 2019 that Epstein’s autopsy was more consistent with homicidal strangulation than suicidal hanging.

Epstein’s victims testified during a closed door hearing with the Oversight and House Government Reform Committee on Tuesday. The Oversight Committee released over 33,000 pages of documents related to Epstein on Tuesday that they obtained from the DOJ.
