Behold the Censorship Machine at Work in Europe

If you don’t read Michael Shellenberger’s Public.News, you are missing out. 

Shellenberger has been fighting for free speech in the United States and the West for years now and has been one of the great warriors against the excesses of woke. He was one of the original Twitter Files investigators, and like Matt Taibbi and Bari Weiss has remained center to center-left as the liberals veered into Stalinism. 

On Wednesday, he published an investigation into France’s censorship regime, and he has received his response:

The European Union has labeled his reporting “malware” and is blocking access to it. I kid you not. 

This gives a new twist to the term “mind virus.”

The investigation revealed potential criminal activity by Macron and other French leaders, and they have an obvious motive for censoring the content. But in doing so, they are also confirming the basic allegation: that what Europeans are allowed to see is wholly determined by what the Establishment wishes. 

At this moment, the Trump administration is negotiating with the EU over final obstacles to a trade deal, one of which is European censorship of US social media platforms.

Many analysts believe the massive size of the EU will lead US social media firms to impose European censorship, including on Americans. Last year, the EU’s then-top digital censor, Thierry Breton, threatened action against Elon Musk after he announced a conversation on X with Donald Trump.

Now, new TWITTER FILES show a coordinated effort by France’s President Emmanuel Macron, legislators, and state-affiliated NGOs working together to force the world’s most influential social media platform to censor users for legal speech and influence Twitter’s worldwide “content moderation” for narrative control.

What’s more, TWITTER FILES – FRANCE reveals the birth of the censorship-by-NGO proxy strategy at the heart of the Censorship Industrial Complex:

— President Macron personally reached out to then-CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey;

— The timing of Macron’s action strongly suggests coordination with NGOs on a pressure campaign to win more censorship and demand sensitive user data from Twitter;

— The pattern of events indicates potentially illegal activity by various actors.

It is ironic that the main sticking point in the trade deal with the EU is the Digital Services Act. The EU maintains that they do not censor and its policies do not affect US-based companies. To prove it, they are blocking access to a US-based news source to suppress information they do not want to be known. 

As the European Union and the United Kingdom falter, quickly becoming stagnant societies being colonized by medievalist Islamists whose main interest is to rape and pillage the countryside, the elite work harder and harder to hide the reality they have created.

It is probably too late for these countries to reverse course, but at the very least, the United States should not stand by and allow them to use their bureaucratic power to take us down with them. 

The Trump administration should stick to its guns on free speech. What happens in Europe has a direct impact here. If our policies help spur Europeans into saving themselves, that would be outstanding. After all, the continent is where Western Culture was born, and it is worth saving. 

But even if we can’t help save Europe, we can at least defend our own regime from following its path to societal suicide.
