Former Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz described the Wednesday shooting of Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk on Fox News.
Kirk was shot while holding an event at Utah Valley University. The shaken Chaffetz described trading texts with Kirk before the incident.

“He took a first question, which was a religious question. And then he got to the second question, which was about 30 minutes into his presentation, 2:30 local time, and the question was about transgender shooters, mass killing, versus people that were transgender, and when that happened, when that question came out, you know, going to have the interaction, one-shot,” Chaffetz said. “I was watching Charlie. I can’t say that I saw blood. I can’t say that I saw him get hit, but I did see him fall immediately backwards into his left. And I can just hope and pray that somehow he survives that.”
Kirk founded Turning Point USA, an organization for conservative college and high school students, in June 2012, according to the organization’s website. He also hosts “The Charlie Kirk Show,” a podcast that later became a three-hour radio show on the Salem Radio Network, according to his biography on the Turning Point USA site.
“I traded text messages with him. I try to text message with him ahead of time, and I said ‘Hey, Charlie, hope I get a chance to see you. Our family would like to see you again,’” Chaffetz told “America Reports” co-host Sandra Smith. “And we still want to see him again. He – he said he was going to go for a few hours. Maybe we could see him afterwards. But gosh, it’s just – he is there doing the right thing, you know?”
Kirk’s condition is unknown as of this writing.
“This is the situation to the best of our knowledge Charlie Kirk, who was invited by a student group Turning Point USA was speaking on campus today beginning at noon at about 120 a shot was fired from a building about 200 yards away. We believe that the individual Charlie Kirk was shot and we have a suspect in custody campus is closed for the rest of the day,” a Utah Valley University spokesperson said.
