Top Democrats react to Kirk shooting
Top Democratic leaders have issued strong statements condemning political violence following the reported shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer each expressed support for Kirk and the UVU community while denouncing the attack.
Jeffries stated that “political violence is NEVER acceptable,” offering prayers for Kirk and his family. Pelosi called the shooting “reprehensible” and urged Americans to hold the UVU community in their hearts. Schumer described the incident as “horrifying” and emphasized that such violence has no place in the country.
The horrific shooting today at Utah Valley University is reprehensible. Political violence has absolutely no place in our nation.
All Americans should pray for Charlie Kirk’s recovery and hold the entire UVU community in our hearts as they endure the trauma of this gun violence.

Emma Pitts and Eva Terry, reporters for Deseret News, have shared eyewitness accounts of the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Speaking to CNN, Pitts said the gunshot came just minutes into Kirk’s remarks. “Then you see Charlie go limp,” she recalled. “His neck kind of turned, and we saw blood immediately.”
Video footage from the event appears to show Kirk recoiling in his seat after being struck in the neck. Pitts added, “It felt like so much blood came out his neck immediately.”
Terry described the pre-shooting atmosphere as “really happy, excited,” with students eager to engage with Kirk. She said the shooting occurred just after a student asked Kirk a question about transgender shooters. “Before Charlie Kirk could pick up the mic again, that’s when the shot happened,” Terry said.

TPUSA is confirming Charlie’s in the hospital as we all had heard.
Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization founded by Charlie Kirk, confirmed in a statement to CNN that Kirk was shot during the organization’s campus tour stop on Wednesday.

Charlie Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was in critical condition at a Utah hospital Wednesday after being shot at a college event, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. A suspect was in custody, the college said.
Videos posted to social media from Utah Valley University show Kirk speaking into a handheld microphone while sitting under a white tent emblazoned with the slogans “The American Comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong.” A single shot rings out and Kirk can be seen reaching up with his right hand as a large volume of blood gushes from the left side of his neck. Stunned spectators are heard gasping and screaming before people start to run away. The AP was able to confirm the videos were taken at Sorensen Center courtyard on the Utah Valley University campus.

The suspect in the shooting of political activist Charlie Kirk is not yet in custody, according to a spokesperson from Utah Valley University, despite the school saying earlier police did have someone in custody.
Initially, the school said the suspect was in custody.
Kirk, who was invited by a student group, was speaking Wednesday afternoon when a shooter fired from a campus building about 200 yards from Kirk, a spokesperson told CNN.
