California Rep. Dave Min has not deleted a social media post claiming Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin was part of the “MAGA” movement, even as reports indicate the suspect leaned left politically.

“Now that the Charlie Kirk assassin has been identified as MAGA, I’m sure Donald Trump, Elon Musk and all the insane GOP politicians who called for retribution against the ‘RADICAL LEFT’ will now shift their focus to stopping the toxic violence of the RADICAL RIGHT,” Min wrote on X, Sept. 13.

X users quickly pushed back. One person responding, “When I first saw this, I thought it was some Bluesky retard and then discovered it’s actually a real tweet from a member of Congress. But to answer your question? No, we will not be shifting our focus. You people are the enemy, and we’re coming after you with every single institutional and legal tool we have at our disposal.”

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said investigators learned from the alleged assassin Tyler Robinson’s relatives that he viewed Kirk as “full of hate and spreading hate.” Police recovered ammunition etched with phrases such as “Hey, fascist! Catch!” along with unfired casings inscribed with lyrics from Bella Ciao, an anti-fascist anthem. National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Christian Martinez condemned Min’s statement. “Unhinged conspiracy theorist Dave Min is spewing lies and exploiting a tragedy to score cheap political points,” Martinez stated. “Besides being a drunk, Min is reckless, disgraceful, and a pathetic excuse for a Congressman who will say anything to distract from his own failures. Californians deserve better.”

Min’s reference to drinking ties back to a 2023 arrest. At the time, Min, then a California state senator, was cited for driving under the influence while operating a state-owned vehicle near the Capitol in Sacramento, according to the Los Angeles Times. Min apologized at the time, calling his decision “irresponsible.”

Min has not publicly addressed the criticism surrounding his X post about Kirk’s alleged assassin.
