Deputy Director of the FBI Dan Bongino told Megyn Kelly that the investigation into the recent shooting is ongoing, with thousands of leads being pursued, and cautioned against assuming the probe is anywhere near completion.

Bongino emphasized that the case involves numerous tips, some credible and others not, but assured that investigators are leaving no possibility unchecked.

“We are, are not done anyone under the assumption out there that this is, you know, the end of the investigation is, is categorically wrong,” Bongino said.

“It’s, you know, not even the end of the beginning of the investigation. We’re exhausting every lead. There are 1000s. There are 1000s of leads that have come in through open source, through our and talk line, through our specific FBI tip line. Some of them did not pan out. Some of them won’t pan out, but some of them may, but we’re not we’re not done at all looking into any possible support or aiding and abetting in the case.”

Kelly pressed Bongino on whether there was advanced knowledge among individuals connected to the suspect.

“Do we believe the twigs had advanced knowledge of the shooting, given the fact that he clearly received texts from Tyler telling him where to find the gun, what was written on the casings and so on, and that he had those when you guys went knocking on his door,” Kelly asked.

Bongino, while careful not to compromise the ongoing cooperation in the investigation, acknowledged that there were warning signs.

“Well, given the cooperation of that subject at this time, I don’t want to say too much about what he’s saying or not saying. However, there are indicators just beyond twigs that there were a lot of warning signs here in this case,” Bongino responded.

He drew from his experience in targeted violence prevention with the Secret Service, describing patterns that emerge in political or ideological attacks.

“And having said that, this is, you know, this is a good moment to put out there when you look at these targeted violence attacks, political assassinations of space, I’m unfortunately all too familiar with in my time with the Secret Service, school shootings, not random violence, not domestic violence, but targeted violence for political or ideological reasons,” Bongino explained.

“You see a lot of these warning signs in advance, where they tell people is that the case here it appears warning signs were there. I don’t want to get too specific about what they were.”

Bongino noted that in many past cases, people close to suspects had dismissed troubling behavior.

“However, we hear this a lot, and I’m not suggesting it’s in this case, but we hear, Oh, I thought it was a joke. And, you know, I hate the just generic advice of the See something, say something, because it gets blown off. But this happens, unfortunately, all too many times. And there were a number of warning signs there that this individual suspect in the case had taken a dark turn,” Bongino said.

He reminded the public that despite the gravity of the allegations, legal standards still apply.

“And I want to put out in advance, obviously, as well as the Deputy Director, that everyone’s presumed innocent in our republic, no matter how vile the crime is. I think everybody understands that. But Facts are facts. Evidence are evidence. And we really, really feel both cash and I feel the need to talk to the public here,” Bongino said.

He concluded by stressing that while there are limits to what investigators can disclose during an active case, they remain committed to keeping the public informed.

“And again, I just don’t want anyone in the public to assume sometimes my lack of an answer is in any way a problem with clarity, there are just some reasons we can’t talk about some things, but we really do want to, want to address as many of these issues as we can with the public,” Bongino said.
