Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune moved to expedite the confirmation process of 108 Trump nominees, clearing the backlog of ambassadors, U.S. attorneys and assistant secretaries.
Thune filed the resolution late Thursday night, according to Thune’s Office. The resolution moved to clear a large portion of President Donald Trump’s nominee backlog by early October, bringing them one step closer to confirmation.
There are 108 nominees the Senate needs to confirm, according to a list obtained by Bloomberg and Punchbowl News.

This includes Hershel Walker, former professional football player and Georgia GOP Senate candidate, who is President Trump’s nominee for U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas. Also on the list is Sergio Gor, former Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, nominated to serve as U.S. Ambassador to India.
Benjamin Black, a former Goldman Sachs analyst and son of private equity leader Leon Black, has been nominated to serve as Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation.
Republicans have largely attributed the delays in confirming nominees to Democratic obstruction before the August recess, pointing to Democrats’ refusal to move nominees forward by unanimous consent. (RELATED: Are Republicans Doing Enough To Confirm Trump Nominees? Conservative Critics Say No)
The majority leader also filed cloture on the executive calendar regarding former national security advisor Mike Waltz, Trump’s nominee for ambassador to the United Nations (UN). If the Senate does not confirm him before the UN General Assembly convenes for its high-level meetings on Monday, Waltz would only be able to participate in a limited capacity at the summit.

Waltz’s nomination was initially advanced by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in July on a 12–10 vote, but a procedural issue required a revote. On Sept. 11, the committee approved him again by an 11–10 margin, with New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen as the only Democrat in support and Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul the lone Republican opposed.
That same day, the Senate adopted a rule change in a 53–45 vote allowing unlimited nominees to be confirmed together, bypassing individual consideration. Under the new process, Thune has already advanced an initial package of 48 Trump nominees.
The Senate confirmed chief White House economist Stephen Miran to the Federal Reserve Board on Monday in a 50–44 vote, allowing him to take part in the Fed’s mid-September interest rate meeting starting Tuesday.
