ROOKE: Trump And Elon’s Greeting Feels Like Way More Than A Handshake

Before his death, Charlie Kirk admitted that he hoped Elon Musk and President Donald Trump would reconcile. His memorial became the first place the two titans were pictured together since the fallout, signaling something bigger might be happening.

When discussing the relationship between arguably the two most powerful individuals (Musk and Trump), it’s essential not to overlook that their separation set off significant political and social tension within the conservative movement. Their reconciliation highlights a polarized yet potentially unifying moment in American politics.

Several things have happened since Musk and Trump had their falling out, including an attempt at a third party (the America Party) by Musk, mudslinging and accusations from both sides, and a promise from the tech mogul that he would not financially support the GOP to the extent he did in 2024.

While things got very heated between Trump and Musk, it seemed the Tesla CEO’s anger had tempered in August, with him quietly changing his plans to start a political party and instead choosing to back Vice President JD Vance in the 2028 presidential race should he run, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Since tensions between the two titans began to cool, Musk has been vocal about the issues in the United Kingdom, which mirror the same battles Americans faced during the 2024 election, initially uniting Musk and Trump. He seems to be hyper-fixated on supporting the growing “MAGA”-type movement in the U.K. against the government’s crackdowns on free speech and reported cover-up of migrant rape gangs. In August, Musk offered to fund legal action against U.K. officials who “aided and abetted the rape of Britain,” referring to years of covered-up Pakistani grooming gangs preying on young girls, and pledged support for victims’ lawsuits. He addressed the massive conservative march in London in September.

His own third party has seen little movement or success. Almost as if he realized that all the money in the world is not going to stop a grassroots movement. It seems he had a choice to make. Either continue on his own and make little difference in the issues that matter most to saving Western civilization, or reconcile with Trump. It seems he chose the latter.

Kirk was assassinated in cold blood in front of the world. The travesty was likely a reminder of Musk’s own mortality and how Trump defended him when radical far-left activists were firebombing Tesla dealerships.

If we are to believe professional lip reader Nicola Hickling from the Daily Mail report, Trump greeted Musk in the presidential box, saying, “So Elon, I’ve heard you wanted to chat.”

“Let’s try and work out how to get back on track,” Trump said, according to the Daily Mail source. Musk responded with a nod of agreement. Trump then shakes Musk’s hand, allegedly saying, “I’ve missed you.”

There was a moment of unity between the two. Musk reposted a White House tweet after the memorial service that showed Trump and Musk talking together, with the caption: “POTUS x @ElonMusk For Charlie.”

A reconciliation between Trump and Musk would strengthen the GOP by reuniting two influential figures with massive resources and platforms, preventing internal divisions ahead of the 2026 midterms. It cannot be understated how much help Musk gave conservative messaging, especially on free speech and illegal immigration, when he purchased X.

Additionally, Musk’s financial support in the 2024 election was reportedly around $300 million. Without the reconciliation, GOP candidates would lose out on essential campaign funding to counter Democratic spending. Avoiding a third party like Musk’s proposed “America Party” prevents vote-splitting, which could otherwise hand seats to Democrats and weaken Republican control of Congress. Their handshake, now seen around the world, brings a whole new component to what will be a heated 2026 midterm battle. Trump and Musk’s combined star power and ability to unify could solidify the GOP’s base, enhance fundraising, and provide a counter to Democrats’ monopoly of influence on other tech platforms.
