President Donald Trump said Thursday he’ll use tariff revenues to send cash aid to farmers who will feel short-term pain before his new duties “kick in” to their benefit, vowing to keep producers “in great shape.”
The president made the pledge in the Oval Office as his team sketches a farm-aid package funded by money collected from import tariffs. Trump did not release program details, but Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has said the administration is weighing a plan modeled on the first-term bailout that paid out billions during the China trade war, according to Reuters. “We’re going to take some of that tariff money that we’ve made, we’re going to give it to our farmers — who are, for a little while, going to be hurt until it kicks in, the tariffs kick in to their benefit,” Trump said.
A clip of the remarks circulated on X from the Oval Office, where Trump added, “We’re going to make sure that our farmers are in great shape.”

Trump signaled confidence that the tariff regime will ultimately lift farm incomes, telling reporters that “ultimately, the farmers are going to be making a fortune.” But he acknowledged producers will absorb a hit first — a gap the proposed tariff-funded aid is meant to cover.
