Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has been selected as the headline performer for the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, the NFL announced this week.

The game is scheduled for February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, as reported by The Blaze.

The 31-year-old artist reacted to the announcement by saying the performance would be dedicated to his “people” and their history. “What I’m feeling goes beyond myself,” Bad Bunny said in a statement released by the NFL.

This is Bad Bunny.

He was just announced as the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.

– Massive Trump hater
– Anti-ICE activist
– No songs in English

He even canceled his entire U.S. tour for this reason: “F***ing ICE could be outside my concert. And it’s something that we were… pic.twitter.com/11KvuSWnEH

“It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown … this is for my people, my culture, and our history.” He closed by saying in Spanish, “Go tell your grandma we’re going to be the SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW.”

The announcement comes only months after Bad Bunny criticized President Donald Trump in a music video released July 4. In the video for his single “NUEVAYoL,” the performer draped a Puerto Rican flag over the Statue of Liberty and included a parody of Trump’s voice apologizing to immigrants.

The parody said, “I want to say that this country is nothing without the immigrants. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans.”

In September, Bad Bunny revealed he excluded the United States from his upcoming world tour, citing concerns that Immigration and Customs Enforcement might raid his concerts. “There was the issue of — like, f**king ICE could be outside,” he said in remarks published by The Guardian.

The artist also endorsed then-Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election. He said his decision came after being offended by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s joke at a Trump rally that mocked Puerto Rico’s waste management issues.

“I can understand that it’s a joke, but there’s people that doesn’t understand that it’s a joke. People who are going to agree with that joke,” Bad Bunny said at the time, according to Yahoo.

Bad Bunny’s selection drew support from several celebrities.

Bruno Mars, who is part Puerto Rican, reposted his words from the NFL’s announcement and wrote on X, “Go get em Bad Bunny!” Rapper Jay-Z, who partners with the NFL on halftime shows through his company Roc Nation, described the performer as “inspiring” and praised his impact on Puerto Rican culture.

“We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage,” Jay-Z said.

NFL senior vice president of global event production Jon Barker said Bad Bunny has a “unique ability to bridge genres, languages, and audiences,” making him a “natural choice” for the halftime show.
