These Are Good Examples of Bad Examples for Pennsylvania Republicans

A while back, I argued that we need to make Republicans afraid again. Afraid for their jobs.

In light of recent events, that’s probably not the best wording possible, but the sentiment still holds. There aren’t really many pro-gun Democrats holding office these days, so we have to count on Republicans exclusively to hold the line.

That’s less than ideal because, like any other political party, almost no one is in complete lockstep with their party on every single issue. For some of them, they’re open to at least some gun control.

One issue where you’re likely to find Republicans open to is universal background checks, and as the Pennsylvania House just passed a bill to do that, there are a number of Republicans who helped, and those guys need to be made to recognize they should brush up their resumes.

Five Pennsylvania Republicans voted with House Democrats on Tuesday to help pass universal background check legislation.

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives listed the Republicans who voted pro-gun control: Reps. Joe Hogan (R-Dist. 142), Kristin Marcell (R-Dist. 178), Kathleen Tomlinson (R-Dist. 18), Martina White (R-Dist. 170), and Rep. Craig Williams (R-Dist. 160).

…

WITF noted that three other gun control bills failed to pass and CeaseFirePA’s Adam Garbar criticized the House for not passing more gun laws: “The failure of other common sense safety measures on the House floor fails all of us. And in the wake of so many recent mass shootings around this country, we are sickened that 102 members of the Pennsylvania House refused to make us safer.”

The bill passed 104-99.

In other words, without these Republicans crossing the aisle, the bill wouldn’t have advanced.

It’s likely that the Senate will sit on the bill, as that’s in Republican hands at the moment, but the fact that these five crossed the aisle is a problem. Bipartisanship might be all fine and good on most issues, but gun control ain’t one of them.

Universal background checks do not inhibit criminals from trying to obtain firearms. They’re rarely going to regular gun owners to purchase firearms. They’re typically either stealing a gun or they’re buying a gun on the black market.

All these measures do is make it so much harder for regular people to do as they’ve done for generations.

That includes asking a buddy to take your guns off your hands when you’re having some mental health issues. This is a common practice for a lot of people to make sure they don’t do something their family will regret later. With a law like this, that’s a whole lot harder for someone to do.

Which, of course, leads to more suicides, which are then translated into “gun deaths” and used to justify still more gun control, all without acknowledging the fact that gun laws created at least some of those deaths.

These five Republicans have betrayed their constituents and their party. They need to be made to feel the wrath of those folks in the next election. They need to be voted out as soon as humanly possible, then kept from any other public office for the rest of their days.

We’ve got enough problems with Democrats still being on their anti-gun jihad. We don’t have time for Republicans to start joining them.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
