Attorney General Pam Bondi clashed with Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) during a tense Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday, delivering a pointed response after the Democrat accused her of corruption related to a Justice Department antitrust case, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The exchange took place during Bondi’s testimony before the committee, which convened to question administration officials following the recent indictment of former FBI Director James Comey for lying to Congress and the deployment of National Guard troops to cities experiencing surges in violent crime.

Earlier in the hearing, Bondi fielded questions from Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) about her communications with the White House regarding National Guard mobilizations.

After responding to Durbin’s inquiries, she was pressed by Blumenthal, who shifted the discussion to a dropped antitrust case involving American Express Global Business Travel (GBT).

Blumenthal suggested that Bondi may have acted improperly due to her prior professional ties to a lobbying firm connected to the case. “I do have a question about the merger that took place involving American Express GBT,” Blumenthal said.

“I understand that Brian Ballard, a longtime backer and head of the law firm where you worked, was instrumental in lobbying the Justice Department to drop that lawsuit. It was dismissed, so it is not subject to a court review. What conversations did you have with Mr. Ballard?”

Bondi immediately responded, saying, “Senator Blumenthal, I cannot believe that you would accuse me of impropriety when you lied about your military service.”

The moment drew an audible reaction in the chamber as Bondi’s remark referenced Blumenthal’s long-criticized statements about his military record.

The Connecticut senator has faced scrutiny since 2010 after admitting he “misspoke” about serving in Vietnam, when in fact he did not deploy overseas during the war.

The Justice Department dropped the antitrust lawsuit in July 2025 following an internal review that found insufficient evidence to proceed. There has been no indication of wrongdoing by Bondi or her office in connection with that decision.

Bondi, who was confirmed as Attorney General earlier this year, has led several high-profile initiatives within the Justice Department, including efforts to reform federal law enforcement operations and coordinate with local governments on public safety deployments.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has held multiple hearings in recent weeks to examine the DOJ’s ongoing investigations and policy decisions. Bondi’s testimony marks her first appearance before the committee since assuming office.
