Two Pennsylvania State Police troopers were shot and wounded Wednesday afternoon during a pursuit and shootout with a suspect who was later killed, authorities confirmed, as reported by the New York Post.
According to a statement released by Pennsylvania State Police, the incident began when troopers responded to a theft report at a sporting goods store in southern Franklin County, located about 85 miles northwest of Baltimore.
Police said multiple suspects fled the store in a vehicle, prompting a pursuit. Troopers eventually deployed spike strips to stop the car. Once the vehicle came to a halt, two women exited and were taken into custody without incident.

Both wounded officers were transported to nearby hospitals. One was listed in critical condition and the other in serious condition as of Wednesday evening. State police have not yet released their names.
Governor Josh Shapiro issued a statement expressing support for the injured troopers and their families.
“Pennsylvania’s law enforcement officers are the very best of us — running towards danger every day to keep our communities safe,” Shapiro said on the social media platform X. “Lori and I are praying for their recovery, and we ask all Pennsylvanians to join us.”

Authorities said the Bureau of Criminal Investigation has launched a review of the incident, which occurred near Chambersburg, in Franklin County.
The department confirmed that both female suspects remain in custody as investigators determine their level of involvement in the theft and the subsequent shooting.
No other law enforcement officers or bystanders were reported injured during the exchange of gunfire.
The suspect who fired at police has not yet been publicly identified, pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy is expected to be conducted later this week.
State Police said additional updates will be released once the condition of the injured troopers stabilizes and the investigation progresses.
The shooting marks the latest in a string of violent encounters involving police responding to theft-related crimes across the state in recent months, prompting renewed calls for stronger penalties against offenders who attack law enforcement officers.
