Welp. Seems to be going around.
I had just finished reading a Xweet about Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russ Vought’s plans during the Schumer Shutdown for trimming the fat. He was a guest on the Charlie Kirk Show, and outlined what he had in mind and why when asked ‘How many are we talking?’
BREAKING: The GRIM REAPER has been released!
Russ Vought just confirmed the Democrats WORST NIGHTMARE is happening. There will be THOUSANDS more bureaucrats fired!
I LOVE the Schumer Shutdown! pic.twitter.com/iEEd6wI0z0

He said the snapshot number was 4000, but he felt it was ‘going to be much higher.’
That’ll put a dent in government payrolls.
And then I saw this sad little Xweet I guess I’d missed this morning.
Significant layoffs underway today at NBC News… big round of layoffs coming this quarter at CBS News…
— Dylan Byers (@DylanByers) October 15, 2025
CBS, too? Ah. Part of the Bari Weiss acquisition and Paramount thing, no doubt.
But, for sure, I was curious where the slicing and dicing was happening at NBC as it carves itself asunder from the whackjobs at MSNBC. At long last, cutting that umbilical cord, if you will, which had for so long tethered the looniest chicks of the Left to the mother hen ship.
There had been some initial snipping around the edges last month. The mood took a grim turn.
…Late last month, fewer than a dozen employees in NBC’s graphics department — which had supported both MSNBC and NBC News — were laid off as part of an early reorganization ahead of the Versant split.
That move, also first reported by Status, was described internally as the “first casualties” of the divorce between NBC News and its cable counterparts.
Last week, NBC News began a legally required “consultation phase” in its London bureau, the first step toward layoffs there. The move was widely interpreted by employees as a sign of deeper cuts ahead.
Inside 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the mood has darkened. Several insiders told Status that speculation about who will be affected has dominated internal chats for days.
NBC News has been trimming around the edges in anticipation of the deeper cuts, insiders told Status, but the network’s workforce will need to shrink substantially now that it will no longer provide shared resources to MSNBC and CNBC.
Can they flap their independent, fragile wings on their own? Or do they faceplant?
To take those first tentative wing stretches, one must be lean, mean, and ready, and all excess weight jettisoned so as to be light as a feather.
Ergo, au revoir to many of the niche and most avant-garde of the Old MSNBC Guard.
The ‘special flowers’ designations are no longer.
NBC News’ 150 Layoffs Gut Black, Latino, Asian American and LGBTQ+ Diversity Teams
The verticals focused on Black, Latino, Asian American and LGBTQ+ groups will remain, but they come amid a broader shift in media away from diversity efforts
NBC News eliminated its teams dedicated to covering issues affecting Black, Asian American, Latino and LGBTQ+ groups as part of its layoffs of about 150 staffers on Wednesday, according to two sources familiar with the matter, a significant culling as the Peacock network separates from its sister news network, MSNBC.
The cuts mean that the verticals NBC BLK, NBC Asian America, NBC Latino and NBC OUT will no longer have dedicated teams bolstering their coverage. The verticals will continue to publish stories related to the specific groups, according to one source, but the work will be distributed across the broader newsroom.
The total reductions, which affected NBC News’ entire news operation, make up about 7% of NBC News’ newsroom of about 2,000 staffers and 2% of the wider NBCU News Group, which includes Telemundo and the network’s owned-and-operated local news stations. The cuts did not target specific teams and were driven by the network’s budget and the desire to streamline its editorial efforts, according to one source.
You go, guys.
…MSNBC has begun growing its own newsroom, hiring swaths of talent from NBC News, the Washington Post, Politico and others as it builds its newsgathering operation. It plans to launch its rebranded image — including its new name, MS NOW — in the coming weeks.
Cesar Conde, the head of the NBCU News Group, touted the company’s investment in news in a memo to staffers last week, referencing its upcoming subscription service and a marketing campaign that “will reinforce our reputation for rigorous fact-based reporting that is indispensable and accessible across all platforms for all.”
‘Rigorous, fact-based reporting’? Oh. That’s absolutely what MSNBC is known for.
ABSOLUTELY
Having been on the receiving end of layoffs, I probably won’t ever be that person on the sideline gleefully clapping as people put their desk stuff in a box, but there are some times when you don’t wonder if their time at the job could have been better spent. And I will be that person thinking, ‘perhaps you could have seen this coming had you not been so smugly self-absorbed.’
I will admit to that.
So it looks like NBC ‘News’ is firing its
Democrat Party ‘diversity’ employees. It’s a good opportunity to remind everyone of this ‘news’ outlets absurd devotion to activism disguised as journalism. Remember, savor and celebrate all ‘journalism’ layoffs.🎉

And the truth is, there wasn’t a lot of true, old-fashioned journalism going on, whatever Mister ‘Rigorously Researched Facts’ wants to believe.
You hit the nail on the head with “most reporting is lazy” particularly with the use of an anonymous source. It’s just too easy to make things up when verification is not possible.

Half the time, the spelling in the chyrons is atrocious, and when I think of the hell I catch here for a spelling flub in one of my headlines – sheesh. And they HAVE editors!
Well.
Had, probably.
As of October 20th, the divorce is complete. No more NBC reporters on MSNBC sets, no more shared resources, no production, nothing. The NY Post says they’ll only have joint custody of the election Decision Desk through the end of the election year. I am still kind of hazy about whether that means 2025 or through the congressional races next year.
Regardless, MSNBC will be, for all intents and purposes, alone in the universe at last by the end of October.
If anyone tunes in to check on them, let me know how it’s going, okay?
It’s enough that I watch the CBS Evening News.
Yeah.
It’s enough.
The mainstream media continues to deflect, gaslight, spin, and lie about President Trump, his administration, and conservatives.
