President Donald Trump warned that the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches scheduled to take place in Boston could be moved to another city if Mayor Michelle Wu fails to reduce the city’s rising crime, as reported by Breitbart.

The President made the remarks during a joint press conference with Argentine President Javier Milei at the White House.

“We can take them away. I love the people of Boston. And I know the games are sold out, but the mayor is not good. There are worse than her. At least she’s intelligent. You know, some are extremely low IQ. Those bother me more. She’s intelligent, but she’s radical left,” President Trump said.

“The answer is yes, if somebody’s doing a bad job, and if I feel there’s unsafe conditions, I would call Gianni, the head of FIFA, who’s phenomenal, and I would say, ‘Let’s move it to another location,’ and he would do that. He wouldn’t love to do it, but he’d do it, very easily, he’d do it. And this is the right time to do it,” the President added, referring to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The President’s warning followed a violent street takeover in Boston earlier this month that drew national attention. According to the New York Post, a group of more than 100 people blocked streets, engaged in street racing, and attacked police officers in the early morning hours of October 5.

The Boston Police Department reported that participants hurled fireworks, traffic cones, and poles at law enforcement vehicles as officers attempted to disperse the crowd. Several police cruisers sustained damage, and authorities made multiple arrests at the scene.

Larry Calderone, president of the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association, said the group involved was “hell-bent on attacking law enforcement officials.” The union has repeatedly called for stronger city action against lawlessness and violent public gatherings.

Boston is one of several American cities set to host matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The President’s comments mark the first time a U.S. leader has suggested intervening in host city arrangements for the tournament.

President Trump also indicated that Los Angeles could face a similar review before the 2028 Summer Olympics if the city’s leadership fails to ensure adequate public safety.

“I could say the same thing for the Olympics,” he said. “If I thought LA was not going to be prepared properly, I’d move it to another location.”

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to generate significant economic activity for host cities. Boston was awarded several matches at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

Local officials have touted the event as a major tourism boost, but the President’s remarks place new scrutiny on the city’s leadership and its handling of public safety ahead of the tournament.
