Democratic Congressman Seth Moulton Returns AIPAC Donations, Vows To Reject Future Support

Democratic Massachusetts Rep. Seth Moulton announced Thursday that he has returned campaign donations from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and will no longer accept any future support from the powerful lobbying group.

Moulton launched his 2026 Senate campaign to unseat longtime Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey, saying it’s time for generational change within the party. In a post on social media, Moulton said his campaign had returned all AIPAC donations and would refuse future support.

“I am returning AIPAC donations and refusing to accept any donations or support from them. The FEC filing I made yesterday reflects that we are returning donations,” Moulton wrote.

Moulton said his decision is part of a broader call for a more balanced U.S. approach to the Israeli Palestinian conflict.

“I’m cautiously optimistic that the recent breakthrough in Gaza will move us closer to ending the horrific violence in the region. A political resolution that allows Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace is exactly the kind of framework I’ve been calling for from the beginning,” Moulton said.

The Massachusetts Democrat said that his stance reflects support for Israel’s right to exist and rejects AIPAC’s alignment with the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“I support Israel’s right to exist, but I’ve also never been afraid to disagree openly with AIPAC when I believe they’re wrong. In recent years, AIPAC has aligned itself too closely with Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government,” Moulton added. “I’m a friend of Israel but not of its current government, and AIPAC’s mission today is to back that government. I don’t support that direction. That’s why I’ve decided to return the donations I’ve received and will not be accepting their support.”

In his campaign announcement video, Moulton said he’s committed to progressive priorities such as universal health care and combating climate change. He avoided mentioning transgender issues in education and athletics, topics on which he briefly broke with his party after Democrats’ disappointing performance in the 2024 elections. In the days after President Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory, Moulton told The New York Times that he didn’t want his young daughters competing against biological males, a remark that sparked backlash from progressive activists. The controversy led to a primary challenge from a transgender-identifying candidate. Moulton ultimately voted against Republican-backed legislation that would have barred biological males from women’s sports.
