The Trump White House joined the social media platform Bluesky this past week, sparking backlash from left-wing users who objected to the administration’s presence on the largely liberal site.

Within hours of the account going live, the White House’s first post drew thousands of reactions and became one of the most talked-about topics on the platform.

“What’s up, Bluesky?” the official White House account posted, alongside a highlight video showcasing moments from President Donald Trump’s presidency and inauguration.

The clip included scenes of major policy achievements and public events from Trump’s first term, ending with an image humorously changing the label of the “Gulf of Mexico” to the “Gulf of America.”

“We thought you might’ve missed some of our greatest hits, so we put this together for you. Can’t wait to spend more quality time together!” the caption read.

The video also featured an edited image of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wearing a sombrero — part of a meme trend circulating online in recent weeks.

The meme began as a lighthearted internet joke that spread rapidly across social media platforms, with users posting pictures of political figures and celebrities in sombreros as part of the viral trend.

Reaction on Bluesky was swift.

“Nobody wants you here,” one user commented.

Others replied with messages declaring that Trump was “not our president,” while some referenced the Epstein case in an attempt to attack the administration.

Since Elon Musk’s acquisition of X in 2022, many left-leaning users and commentators have migrated to Bluesky, positioning it as a preferred space for progressive discussions and political commentary.

The Trump administration’s appearance on the platform drew immediate attention because of the site’s reputation as a hub for liberal voices and critics of the president.

Vice President J.D. Vance joined Bluesky in June and has occasionally used his account to engage directly with users on the platform.

On Saturday, as anti-Trump demonstrations took place in several major cities as part of the “No Kings” protest movement, Vance shared an AI-generated video of President Trump wearing a crown.

The post quickly gained traction among both supporters and opponents.

In addition to the White House, several federal departments have also established official accounts on Bluesky in recent days.

I’m on BlueSky right now, watching it happen. The libs are going nuts! 🤣🤣🤣

Every single government agencies all joined at once tonight.

Including the White House!

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed their presence on the platform, signaling a broader effort by the administration to expand its online communications to multiple networks.

DHS’s first post to Bluesky read, “Hello, Patriots! DHS is here to appeal to your patriotic spirit and ask that you lend us a hand in stopping the Democrats’ government shutdown.

To all the Americans on Bluesky, your homeland needs all of us to work together,” accompanied by a short introductory video.

The move marks one of the Trump administration’s most visible efforts to engage directly with social media audiences outside of X.

Analysts note that while X remains the administration’s main outlet for real-time communication, the expansion to Bluesky reflects a growing emphasis on reaching new audiences and countering opposition narratives online.

The White House account remains active on the platform and continues to post content highlighting Trump’s policy accomplishments and messages directed at both supporters and critics.

Democrats have spent years slamming shutdowns, but now they’re pushing a reckless $1.5T spending spree, including healthcare for illegal aliens. Keeping the government shut down only hurts hardworking Americans.

Tell Congress to STOP the Democrat-led shutdown.
