The Second Amendment is for everyone. It’s a civil liberty, and not one depending on someone having the correct ideology.
I’ve long wanted to see more gun ownership among the left in the United States, if for no other reason than gun owners become gun voters, and gun voters on the left would encourage Democrats to push for gun control a whole lot less often.
There has long been the Liberal Gun Club, which includes Democratic voters who actually support gun rights, and I’m glad to have them on our side in this debate. I want to see their numbers grow for the reason I stated previously.
But a recent story makes me wonder how many of their fellow leftists are as relatively sane in their desire for guns as they are.
For years, American leftists have mocked the Second Amendment and called for draconian gun control restrictions. Yet the assassination of Charlie Kirk seems to have marked a turning point in American society. After a 22-year-old homosexual shot Kirk, radical leftists across the nation openly celebrated.
- As the American Spectator commented yesterday, “The post-Floyd left has convinced itself it’s fighting for survival. To question its dogmas is to threaten its existence. That’s why dissent within the ranks is punished with medieval brutality. But something more dangerous is happening right now: Ideology is mutating into insurgency. The left has discovered that it likes the smell of gunpowder.”
From antifa to trans shooters to rainbow rifle clubs, radical leftists are buying guns, practicing their marksmanship, and preparing for a Bolshevik-style revolution.
- A “Trump Must Go” protest in Washington, D.C., tomorrow is expected to draw 20,000 people. Protests are an American right, but as radical leftists have grown more threatening and more violent, “No Kings” and “Trump Must Go” slogans have taken on a double meaning. Some celebrities, podcasters and other voices say it openly: President Trump and other conservatives should be killed.
- A new poll from Politico and Public First finds that 55 percent of Americans believe political violence will increase, and 24 percent actually believe political violence should increase.
These viewpoints show that trust in democracy is breaking down as an increasing number of people support assassins like Tyler Robinson, who killed Charlie Kirk, and Thomas Crooks, who attempted to kill Donald Trump.
There are still questions about Crooks, but the truth is that a lot of people on the left only took issue with his aim, not his actions, and they outright celebrated the assassination of Charlie Kirk, who was really just an activist versus someone elected to office.
Now, the rest of this piece gets into biblical prophecy, which I have no interest in getting into at all. After all, when it comes to my Christianity, I’m a good example of a bad example, and I know it. I’m not remotely up to a theological debate on prophecy here.
However, that doesn’t negate what’s up above. Those are actual facts, and before anyone gets too worked up on “trans shooters,” I’d like to invite them to look up the Zizians for poops and laughs. Most trans people aren’t a threat, contrary to what some might claim, and I know more than a couple who are fully-throated supporters of our gun rights and have been from a non-leftist perspective for years now. I’m not claiming anything other than that there are some trans people, as with every other group, who are unhinged lunatics.
Most alarming, though, is that yes, a large number of people believe violence will increase, and an alarming number want it to increase. They see violence as a way to right what they perceive as wrongs, and so far as I’ve seen, the vast majority of them are on the left.
To say they’re uninterested in self-defense isn’t correct. The issue is that they see this as self-defense. They see assassinations as self-defense. Look at the alleged texts between Robinson and his partner, for example. He literally thought he was defending them from Kirk’s so-called hate.
I’m not going to suggest an ideological purity test for gun ownership. I’m not going to try and somehow curtail my belief that the Second Amendment says “shall not be infringed” for a reason. Nothing is going to change that.
But I don’t see every leftist buying a gun as a potential ally, anymore, either, and that’s a huge problem.
