A 15-year-old student in Orange County, Florida, is being charged as an adult after allegedly shooting and killing a classmate following a brief hallway confrontation at Oak Ridge High School in Sky Lake, authorities announced this week, as reported by The New York Post.
According to Orange County Sheriff John Mina, the shooting stemmed from a minor encounter on October 9 between Jacori Redding, 15, and 16-year-old Pinien Dalmacy.
The two reportedly bumped into each other while walking in the school hallway and exchanged words. When Redding refused to apologize, the two agreed to meet at a nearby park after school to settle the dispute.
Sheriff Mina said Redding brought a gun to the park and shot Dalmacy twice before fleeing back to the school campus. Deputies arrested him shortly afterward in the cafeteria, where they found the firearm inside his backpack.
Redding was initially taken into custody under a juvenile order for manslaughter with a firearm and possession of a firearm on school property. Prosecutors later announced plans to charge him as an adult.
“My heart aches for Pinien’s family, who are grieving this unimaginable loss,” Sheriff Mina said at a press conference.
“And I’m angry that something as small as bumping into someone in the halls of a high school can result in a shooting death.”

Local reports from WESH indicated that Redding had a lengthy disciplinary history at Oak Ridge High, including at least 17 previous incidents involving fights. He was also facing unrelated charges for grand theft auto and resisting an officer without violence.

Investigators discovered text messages from Redding in which he allegedly wrote about planning to make someone think they were going to fight and then “pop” them — a slang term for shooting.
A GoFundMe page created by Dalmacy’s family described the victim as “full of light, always smiling, always dancing, and loved by everyone who knew him.”
His mother said the tragedy had devastated their family. “My life changed forever when my baby was taken from me after something so small — a hallway bump — turned into something unthinkable,” she wrote.
“Watching his brother and sisters cry for him and reliving that moment every day is unbearable.”
Redding is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday for a detention hearing to determine whether he will remain jailed ahead of trial. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison, according to WFTV.
