Virginia Dems Already Pushing for More Gun Control

Virginia Democrats sure didn’t wait long.

It was obvious from the jump that as soon as the election results were in, gun control was going to be on the agenda in the Old Dominion state. It was always going to happen, which is why that election was so important.

But just days after their win, Democrats in the state are coming right out and saying that we were all right.

State Senator Creigh Deeds said there is a lot of work to get done between now and the next session, and their priority is making sure they build legislation that can not only pass through the General Assembly but will also be effective for Virginians. 

“It’s intensified in the last few days. Honestly, on this day, I have already had to, by the middle of the day, four meetings already on different bills and ideas we are working on,” Deeds said. 

Deeds said there is a common misconception when it comes to how they are addressing gun legislation. 

“We want to respect people’s constitutional rights, but we want to keep our communities as safe as we can,” Deeds said.

Moms Demand Action echoed that, which is absolute nonsense.

There’s nothing constitutional about gun control in my opinion, and according to the Bruen decision, any gun control has to fit within a narrow historical context, which Democrats don’t give a damn about. They contort the historical record to try and justify what they want, rather than being guided by that record to determine what is and isn’t acceptable.

They’re rationalizing the hell out of everything they want to do and then trying to tell you that “shall not be infringed” really just means “infringe on everything.”

Among the concrete efforts discussed is a desire to make it illegal to leave an unsecured gun in your vehicle, “extending” waiting periods for guns, and diddling with guns on university campuses.

You’re deluding yourself if you think that’s where it will end.

But it doesn’t have to be that way, folks. Even if anti-gunners control the state, they all want to remain in office for as long as possible. If you blow up their phones and send the signal that Virginia doesn’t want gun control, they’ll back off on a lot of these demands. Some won’t, admittedly, but a lot of them will the moment they find out that remaining in office depends on supporting gun rights.

It’ll take a lot, though, and unless it’s very convincing, those of you living in Virginia are going to have a rough time, but here’s hoping that the tide can be turned in a couple of years before there’s any significant damage.

An unfortunate truth is that bad ideas on guns don’t stay in one state. They’re used to justify those bad ideas taking hold in other states as well. So what happens in Virginia might happen in Georgia next year.

It’s just frustrating that we can’t really do more to help prevent these horrific measures from passing in a state we don’t live in.

Good luck, Virginians. It’s obvious that you’re going to need it going forward.
