A 15-year-old girl was arrested and charged with a felony after she repeatedly struck a Port St. Lucie Police Department cruiser with a metal shovel while an officer was sitting inside, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Nov. 3 in a residential neighborhood after police were dispatched to the teen’s home to investigate a reported disturbance.

The suspect, identified by police as Amy Chance, was taken into custody after damaging the patrol car during the encounter.

According to a press release from the Port St. Lucie Police Department, the responding officer had just arrived at the location when the teen approached the vehicle holding a shovel.

Body camera footage released by the department shows Chance walking toward the parked cruiser and striking it multiple times without any apparent provocation or prior exchange with the officer inside.

“Are you kidding me?” the officer is heard saying in the video as he opens his car door, exits the vehicle, and aims his taser at the teen.

The footage shows the officer ordering Chance to drop the shovel while maintaining his position near the patrol car.

After being confronted, Chance briefly stares at the officer before releasing the shovel. She then makes an obscene gesture at the officer and starts to walk away.

The officer approaches her, issues verbal commands to stop, and places her under arrest.

“Get on the f**king ground,” the officer says in the footage as he turns the teen around, has her kneel, and handcuffs her without resistance.

Police said Chance was taken into custody without further incident.

Investigators said the teen caused more than $1,200 in damage to the police vehicle.

She was charged with felony criminal mischief and later transported to a juvenile detention facility.

“Regardless of age, resorting to intentional damage of people or property in our city will result in an arrest,” the Port St. Lucie Police Department said in a statement.

Officials did not disclose what initially led officers to respond to the residence or why Chance targeted the cruiser.

The department released photos of the damaged patrol car, showing several large dents on the hood and marks consistent with a metal object.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

The incident comes less than two months after a separate shovel-related confrontation involving law enforcement in California.

On Sept. 15, an Anaheim police officer fatally shot 36-year-old Rudy Anthony Martinez II after he charged the officer with a shovel outside an elementary school.

Authorities in Anaheim said officers received a 911 call around 12:45 p.m. reporting a man carrying a brick and shovel who appeared to be under the influence near Palm Lane Elementary School.

When the officer arrived, Martinez allegedly ran toward the patrol car, swinging the shovel.

Dashcam footage released by Anaheim police shows the officer stepping out of his cruiser as Martinez charges.

The officer can be heard shouting “sit down” and warning Martinez that he is “gonna get shot” if he does not stop.

Police said the officer fired two warning shots before using deadly force when the suspect continued his attack.

Martinez was struck by gunfire and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.

Port St. Lucie authorities said no one was injured during the Florida incident.
