Get ready for a pox-upon-both-houses take from pollster and analyst Frank Luntz, as well as a dash of TDS from Washington Journal host Mimi Geerges. However, Luntz aims most of his ire at six Senate Democrats who started this latest round of taking the military hostage for their own Trump derangement, and it’s worth watching for that alone.
Luntz has worked with West Point cadets in recent times, apparently on longitudinal surveys. Geerges asks him about the response on campus to the video that warns them and rank-and-file service members to disobey “illegal orders.” Luntz blasts the Democrats for politicizing the military, and touching off a crisis that could impact the entire country for a cheap political stunt:
Q: How did you and the West Point cadets react to the DNC’s message instructing troops not to follow illegal orders?@FrankLuntz: “My first reaction is ‘why the hell did you put this video out?’. …Of course you don’t obey an illegal order. You [Democrats] are doing this just to… pic.twitter.com/mtHTw7ZDEL

At one point, Geerges claims that Trump has “purged” the military to install loyalists, which is nonsense on stilts. Luntz puts a quick end to those claims, declaring that the caller Geerges cited has no idea what he was talking about. Neither does Geerges. The “purge” she cites involved changing policies at the Department of War and the service branches regarding DEI, transgender issues, and other progressive social-justice experiments that turned into distractions from the core missions of the American military. There has been no suggestion at all that these were intended to install people personally primarily loyal to Trump.
Luntz followed that up by urging people to say “ENOUGH” to the tit-for-tat political moves. That includes the response from the Pentagon to investigate Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) for his role in the video, which has apparently kicked into high gear:
The Pentagon on Monday announced it is investigating Sen. Mark Kelly, a critic of President Donald Trump and Navy veteran, after he and fellow Democrats advised troops not to follow illegal orders.
The Pentagon, in a post on X, said it had launched “a thorough review” into Kelly for “serious allegations of misconduct,” which could result in recalling the Arizona senator to active duty to court-martial him.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, in a statement, confirmed that the move was made in relation to a video circulated on social media last week, where Kelly and five other Democratic lawmakers reminded American servicemembers of their oath to the Constitution and not to an individual ruler.
“Kelly’s conduct brings discredit upon the armed forces and will be addressed appropriately,” Hegseth said.
On one level, this is just FAFO as a military process. Play stupid games – win stupid prizes. However, it also looks like using court martials to score political points, which would be an escalation to an escalation that further pulls the military into partisan politics.
Another popular phrase may apply best here: Is the juice really worth the squeeze?
Right now, the story is Democrat demagoguery, which is collapsing on its own. The “Seditious Six,” as Pete Hegseth called them, are getting pressed by some reporters to provide any examples of illegal orders issued. And the results largely expose these morons for the idiots they are, including Kelly:
Elissa Slotkin ADMITS Democrats lied about President Trump issuing illegal orders to the military:
ABC: “Do you believe President Trump has issued any illegal orders?”
SLOTKIN: “To my knowledge I am not aware of things that are illegal.” pic.twitter.com/63F8AHkK7E

So why make the allegation in the first place? As Luntz says, it’s just another desperate attack by Democrats to distract from their myriad failures. So is the claim that Trump has “purged” the military to install “loyalists,” made by people who probably couldn’t name three command-rank military figures without a scorecard in their hands first. Geerges is just as egregious on this point as the “Seditious Six,” even if Luntz is too charitable to mention it. He doesn’t have to mention it; the facts speak for themselves, as Luntz makes clear.
Maybe it’s best to take his advice and say enough.
