Democratic Lawmaker Says She Feels Guilty For Being White And Kids Should Too

A state representative in Kentucky said during a Tuesday hearing that white people should feel guilty about their skin tone while debating diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

Republican state Sen. Lindsey Tichenor of Smithfield, Kentucky, introduced legislation to ban DEI from public schools in the state Tuesday, the Paducah Sun reported. Democratic state Rep. Sarah Stalker of Louisville, Kentucky, objected to the bill, saying DEI allowed students to “reflect” on the “historical privilege” white people had during the hearing. “I’m going to be honest, I don’t feel good about being white every day for a lot of reasons,” Stalker claimed in the video posted by LibsofTikTok. “Because it’s a point of privilege that I get to move through the world in a way that so many of my other colleagues and friends and family members and of the community don’t get the privilege to do and I’m just a female, just a woman, just a white woman.”

“If I was a white man, I would be functioning from a point of even greater privilege,” Stalker continued. “I think we’re missing an opportunity when kids have a moment to reflect about how the color of their skin does and does not allow them to move through the world. Running to them and trying to stifle that and trying to say, ‘You shouldn’t feel bad, so we don’t want to ever expose you to something that is going to make you have to pause and have maybe some internal feelings.’ It’s a missed opportunity for some really good dialogue.”

President Donald Trump signed an executive order ending DEI programs in the federal government within hours of taking office on Jan. 20, while Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced the Department of War would scrap quotas for promotions in a Sept. 30 speech.

A report published in “Econ Journal Watch” found that a series of studies by McKinsey and Company showing a positive impact on financial performance by firms embracing diversity were not able to be replicated.

Major corporations in the United States, including McDonald’s, Walmart and Coors have been backing away from DEI initiatives. The Mountain States Legal Foundation alleged that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) turned away over 1,000 applicants from a training initiative due to their race in an April 2024 lawsuit against the agency, according to SimpleFlying.com.
